N: Richard Doddridge Blackmore was one of the most famous English novelists of the second

half of the nineteenth century. Blackmore, often referred to as the "Last Victorian", was a pioneer
of the movement in fiction that continued with Robert Louis Stevenson and others.

M: Lorna Doone is a novel. It is a romance based on a group of historical characters and set in the
late 17th century in Devon and Somerset, particularly around the East Lyn Valley area
of Exmoor.

M: The main characters are John Ridd and Lorna Doone. Other characters are Carver Doone, Tom
Fuggas, Annie Ridd, Ensor Doone, Jan Fry, Gwenny, Jeremy Stickles, Judge Jeffreys, Lord Brandir, King
James and Queen Mary.

N: This novel contains 13 chapters. John Ridd is the son of a respectable farmer
who was murdered in cold blood by one of the notorious Doone clan, a once noble family, now
outlaws, in the isolated Doone Valley. The Doones are murderers and thieves. The one who
killed Jonh’s father is Carver Doone.

M: Lorna is a grandaughter of sir Ensor Doone, but later on she turns out to be lady Lorna Dugal.
She is actually from a very rich family from London. John(14) and Lorna(8) saw each other for
the first time at Doone valley and they fell in love after 7 years when they saw each other again.

N: He got a letter from one of the king’s Judges. He had to go to London and tell the Kings Judge
about the Doones. He got back from his trip to London after 2 months. John and Lorna met
again. Two months had passed before he got a letter from Lorna. He read the letter and they met
again.

M: He found out that Sir Ensor was very ill. He went to Sir Ensor and Ensor wanted him not to
see Lorna again. But the two of them told him they were in love. A few weeks later Sir Ensor
died.

M:One night John took Lorna home because she had refused to marry Carver. Later the battle
between Carver and John happend. John and his people won the battle. Few days later John
found out the truth about Lorna and he told her about it.

N:Lorna went to London. She started living with her uncle. One day John found himself in
London, where he saw Lorna again. One evening the two of them met at Lorde Brandir’s house.
When he was leaving the house he saw three man hiding behind the trees and looking at the
house .He followed them in and he saved Lorde Brandir from being killed. He gained respect
from King James and queen Mary.

M: When Lorna turned 21 and her uncle died she got married to John and they lived happily ever
after.
