Objectives

1 To develop interest for Urdu Learning & Teaching among the Student-teaches.
2 To enable the student teachers solve the problems of teaching Urdu as first/
second Language.
3. To revive creative, Corrective and research Potentials among the student-
Teachers.
4. To develop a habit of using reference books, Journal and other audio-visual aids
as and when required and recording to their avail ability.
5 To enable the student-teachers for teaching of various kinds prose and poetry and
to prepare the lesson plans
6 To enable the student-teacher to prepare their taught for conversation in Urdu in a
refined way.

SYLLABUS

Unit-I
1. Origin and development of Urdu.
2. Elementary Knowledge of Urdu scripts- Khat-e-Naskh, Khat-e- Nastaliq, Khat-e-
Shikast.
3. Teaching of Alphabets borrowed from Arabic, Persian & Hindi, their shapes and
pronunciations, improvement in pronunciations
4. Problems of Urdu Language Teaching.
5. Objectives of teaching Urdu Language at elementary and secondary levels.

Unit-II
6. Reading & Writing : Concept meaning & importance
7. Types of reading silent / loud, extensive/ intensive Reading, comprehensive,
reading defects and their course.
8. Defects in writing skill and their improvement
9. Standard sounds of Urdu, Vowels, Consonants, Haroof-e-Shamsi & Qamari,
Stress and intonation.
10. Teaching of Grammar and Lesson Planning.

Unit-III
11. Teaching of Prose and Lesson Planning.
12. Teaching of Poetry and Lesson Planning.
13. Translation Method.
14. Direct Method.
15. Play way Method.

16. Criteria of good language test.
17. Type of Language Tests.
18. Error analysis and remedial teaching.
