Monday, May 21
Psa. 68:10 Thy congregation hath dwelt therein: thou, O God, hast prepared of thy
goodness for the poor.
Most Gracious God:
All your gifts are prepared gifts. You anticipate my need according to your
treasure store. Lord, I know __________ and __________ need salvation. I
claim your promise right now that you provide good for the poor. Use me to
provide them good news of the gospel, because that is what they need most.
You foreknew their sin. You know their emptiness, loneliness and longing;
I see their poorness of spirit every day they are around me. I am sure if they had
their life to live over again, they would just trust Jesus earlier if they only knew—I
mean really knew—what he can and will provide.
Your supplies of salvation are ready, so now make their hearts ready for the
gospel! Make their minds ready to concede and confess their own sin. Do the
work I cannot do to convict them of their transgressions. Make them see how
poor they really are, so they can claim your riches of redemption prepared in
Christ Jesus, prepared in advance of all their need. Soften their hearts today!
Your grace is sufficient. There is no lack in you. It will not make you any
less rich, or cost you any more to increase your kingdom by one or two people.
Expand the tent! The comfort and rest their heart is waiting for is ready. You
have thought about them. I plead the promise and believe it now.
The crimson fountain of Christ’s blood is still open to them. It will wash
away their sins. You supply a remedy completely equal to their emergency. Open
their heart to the gospel. Be with those out of our church as we all seek to get the
lost to believe on Jesus for eternal life, and call upon his name for themselves. Do
it for your own glory today. Amen.

Glorious God and Our Father:
Purity of heart is the main thing. It is the prime objective. It is my goal for
today. Make me clean inside by the action of the Spirit of God, washing the
word of God over my conscience. Then make me clean outside by consecration
to your will, and obedience to what I read and hear. Then make me clean in
action through my participation to your Eternal Purpose.
My emotions are linked to my understanding. If I love evil I do not see any
good in goodness. If my heart is defiled then my eyesight is dim. I can never see a
holy God if I am looking at unholy things. Help me start with my heart today!
I want to see God right here. I want to catch a glimpse of his glory at my
work, in my life, and around my house. I want to see your truth as it is in Jesus,
with your love, purpose, plan, covenant and character. But I can only apprehend
and then understand those things as I keep sin out of my heart.
! Help me aim at godliness so I can cry,
Psa. 25:15 Mine eyes are ever toward the LORD;
! Put in my heart the desire of Moses when he said,
Exod. 33:18 I beseech thee, show me thy glory.
! Let me purify my life so I can say with David,
Psa. 25:4 Show me thy ways, O LORD; teach me thy paths.
You only give the map of your path and of your way to those who are
living according to the hope they have of being like Christ, because
1 John 3:3 Every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure.
I want fellowship with you now and conformity to Christ in the
future. These are my motives. “I would see Jesus” today. Amen.

Lord God and Gracious Father:
I have nothing to be proud of. The lowest place is mine. But Lord, my
conceit often imagines me to be something when I am not, or to deserve
something when I have no right.
Father, forgive the pride of my nature, and lead me out of it! Forgive my
vices, but at the same time slay them, because I hate even thinking about sliding
back into sin. Especially have mercy on me for my unbelief. You give me proof
of your love, yet I recognize how big a part of my nature it is to doubt. I am
ashamed of it. I would rather live in the gutter than have it that way. Lord, have
mercy, and at the same time give me strength. Make me strong in faith in the
future, bringing glory to God.
I also sorrowfully lament my heart, how it wanders. If you give me a
blessing, I start to idolize it. I often set my affections on my children or my
spouse, on some beloved family member, or even on wealth or substance.
Somehow or other, I end up falling into this spiritual adultery, and the chastity of
my heart toward Jesus gets violated. Foolish heart! My God, work by your Spirit
to make my whole heart Christ’s alone, and never to stray again.
I thank you Lord that I can pray this way. There was a time when I never
believed very much was wrong with my Christianity, but that was before revival.
I lived with the plague of sin and pain of sin, but with no pang of conscience
about it (and certainly no pain of heart). But you have now done a work. A
person has not convicted me, but some one’s preaching has! The Holy Spirit has,
as he works through your word. And I give you praise if it will only make me
more like Christ. Do this today for Jesus’ sake. Amen.

Great Lord and Almighty God:
No one can measure how high you are, but we can see how high you are
in delivering your people. Great is the love that loved us while yet sinners. Great
is the love that delivers the lost. Great are you in the hearts of the enemies you
scatter. Great are you as measured by the fears of the unsaved. Instead of their
mad cry, Great is Diana (Acts 19:28), we will say Great is the Lord!
Great is the great shepherd (Heb. 13:20). Great is the great God and our Savior
(Titus 2:13). Great is our great high priest (Heb. 4:14). Father, you divided him a
portion with the great (Isa. 53:12). Make his name great in all the earth (Psalm 8:1)!
If there is no one greater than you Lord, there should be no greater
praises than yours. Do I believe this? Then you can only be greatly praised by
holy people who are continuously worshipping you in spirit and in truth.
Jerusalem was beautiful for location because she was elevated above the
surrounding locale. The elevation of your church is its beauty. The more we are
above the world, the fairer and finer we are seen.
So keep me near your heart, on the Zion of your holiness, within the
mountains of your power, on the hills of your faithfulness, and surrounded by the
water of your providential care. Help me keep Jesus at the center and the
cross as the focus.
I do not worship someone unknown. I know you as my refuge in distress. I
know you as my delight in despair. I know you as the one I run to in every time
of need. I have no other refuge but you Jesus, and absolutely no confidence in
man or myself. Your great power is my sure provision. I love you, Lord. Amen.
