PAST SIMPLE TENSE – AFFIRMATIVE

There are two types of verbs:

1. Regular verbs 2. irregular verbs

. Walk . Come

. Study . Be

. Listen . Speak

a.- For the past simple of regular verbs, add “ED” to the verb. For example:

 work workED
 Listen listenED

b.- If the verb already ends in -e-, only add “D” to the verb. For example:

 Like likeD
 Use useD

c.- If the verb ends in a consonant + -y-, change the “Y” to “i” and add “ED”. For example:

 Study studiED
 Carry carriED

Many verbs in English are irregular. That means we do not add “ED/D” to form the past simple. They
change the writing. For example:

 Speak spoke
 Eat ate
 Drink drank

But the verb “BE” has two past forms: “WAS” and “WERE”

. Last weekend: el pasado fin de semana . Last Saturday: el sábado pasado
