Research Experience
● Independent Research Study (2015 - 2016): Mount Hebron High School
o Research topic: “Extreme Electronics --The Effect of Screen Time on Childhood Obesity”
o I reviewed journals and publications in the related subject matter and interviewed experts
in the field of childhood obesity. I summarized my findings in a synthesis paper.
● Summer Internship (2017): Biochemistry Lab, Uniformed Services University, Bethesda MD.
o Supervisor: Dr. Teresa Dunn, Ph.D.
o Research Topic: Sphingolipids
o I worked with a team of researchers helping them with their ongoing research. I learned
about cell fractionation and harvest, specifically looked at the effect of different types of
media on the growth of yeast cells and protein expression. I also studied E.Coli cells and
the protein expression for these cells under different conditions such as time until induced,
different media, and various strands. I presented my findings to the other researchers
during their lab meeting.
● Intern/Mentor Study (2017 - present): Maryland Cardiovascular Specialists and St. Agnes
Hospital
o Mentor: Dr. Kabir Yousuf, M.D.
o Research Topic: The Effect of Upstream Factors on Cardiovascular Disease
o I shadow Dr. Yousuf at the Maryland Cardiovascular Specialists office and St. Agnes
Hospital. I review related journal articles and other publications in order to write my
research paper later this year.

Other Related Experience


● HCPSS Math Engineering Science Achievement Biomedical Summer Enrichment Program,
July 2015​: ​Learned about surgical procedures and other aspects of the medical field through
lectures given by U.S. Navy professionals and demonstrations at the NMCSD Medical And
Surgical Simulation Center. I gave a presentation on heart disease for which I won Best
Presentation and Display award.
● Gifted and Talented Summer Institute for Talent Development, June-July 2016​: I assisted
the G/T (Gifted and Talented) class instructor in teaching children, of age 6-10, science
subjects such as human anatomy, chemical reactions, etc. and world culture.
● Howard County Library Volunteering, June-August 2014​: ​ ​Introduced the County Library
Summer reading program to the children and enrolled them in the program.
● Fundraise for National and International Charity Organizations, 2006-current​: Performed
Indian classical dance, at various fundraising events to raise money for organizations such as
Shankar Nethralaya India and St. Jude Cancer Research USA. Many of these funds supported
physically and mentally retarded people around the world, natural disaster victims
worldwide, specifically tsunami victims in Japan and flood victims in India and USA.
● Health Occupation Students of America International Leadership Conference, June 2017​:
Qualified to attend this International level conference after winning 1st place in the
Transcultural Healthcare category at the MD state level. The conference included a
competition and several expos on possible opportunities for health related careers.
● Camp Cardiac, University of Maryland Medical School, August 2017:​ Attended the
informational and hands-on camp where I learned about general topics on medical school
and patient care, specifically about cardiology. I toured the Shock Trauma Center of the
hospital, educated pediatric patients on proper food and nutrition and received CPR
certification.
● Shadow Anesthesiologist Dr. Asha Chari at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, June
2017​: Shadowed Dr. Chari and watched her surgeries for the day, interacting with the
surgeons and medical students in the operation theatre.
