Lesson Sequence

Instructor will display the standard that class will be learning. Class will identify key words and explain the
standard’s meaning.
Instructor will provide some examples of texts and how can they be analyzed. Instructor will explain and
provide examples of citing with evidence. Students will be encourage to make comments and explain the
citation on their own words.
Class will review the R.A.C.E strategy to answer open-ended questions, emphasizing “Cite” and “Expand”
Class will read “Crucita” while listening to the audio.
Students with partners, will re-read the story aloud.
Small groups will complete the analysis questions using RACE, and explaining their citation.
Class will complete all vocabulary and grammar activities.

Week 3-4
Students will continue to practice citing with evidence and explaining own inferences drawn from the text.
Class will read an informative text from the Time Magazine. Students will read in partners, and will analyze
the text by providing opinions, making comparisons, inferences and citing with evidence.
Class will read the literary text “The Last Leaf” by O. Henry. Class will determine the main idea, and will
analyze the text.

WEEK 5-6

Lesson Sequence
Class will review last week’s concept (Cite with evidence)
Instructor and class will read “The Hero” by Stephen Crane. They will identify two central ideas.
Class will discuss main events and will provide details.
Students will write a summary with emphasis on the main idea.
Students will complete all vocabulary and grammar activities that follow the text.
