I. Introduction
The work reported herein was performed to determine the cause of inordinate distress
manifest in the paved asphalt surface from Legarda Station(km post 3) to Marilaque
Highway, Marikina(km post 13). Following is a presentation of the investigation, observation
and conclusion of the distressed infrastructure. The excisting visual condition were based on
close visual assesment.
A. Pavement Condition Index (PCI)
The Pavement Condition Index rates the condition of the surface of a road network.
The PCI provides a numerical rating for the condition of road segments within the road
network, where 0 is the worst possible condition and 100 is the best. It is widely used
in transportation civil engineering. It is a statistical measure and requires manual survey
of the pavement. PCI surveying processes and calculation methods have been
standardized by ASTM for both roads and airport pavements. The method is based on a
visual survey of the number and types of distresses in a pavement.
