Frostbite is the freezing of soft

tissue due to extreme cold.

Frostbite is classified into three

degrees; 1st degree, second

degree, and third degree. The

degrees get exponentially

worse which could lead to

complete destruction of the

injured tissue.

MANAGEMENT

experiencing frostbite should

be immediately removed

from the cold. The affected

person should be slowly

warmed with water that is

between 98°-105°F. This

should be done for 15-30

minutes. The affected area

should be dried, sterilized,

and the person should then

be transported to the nearest

medical facility. If the

frostbite is severe blisters may

form and gangrene may start

to develop. The effected area

may remain permanently

sensitive to the cold.
