I. Doubtful point
After BTS3000V100R014 version, the TA has an optimization, in Software Release Notes, there is an
Item about TA optimization.

TA Optimization
Description This feature precisely supplements RRU channel delay and uses a more
accurate TA estimation algorithm to improve the TA accuracy and
decrease TA measurement variance.
This feature has impacts on the following RF modules: RRU3908 V1, RRU3008
V1, MRFU V1, GRFU V1, RRU3908 V2, RRU3008 V2, MRFU V2, GRFU V2,
RRU3928, RRU3929, RRU3926, and RRU3942.
Benefit The TA is more accurate and the overall TA value is greater than that
before this feature is enabled.
Implementation 1. The delay supplementation solution and test methods have been
optimized to improve the precision of channel delay supplementation on
RRUs and TA accuracy.
2. The TA estimation algorithm has been optimized to decrease the TA
measurement variance.

a. Get the BSC average TA(the distance of MS and BTS – counter:AS3280)
All BSC change of TA figures match with release notes



b. TA distribution by range (Percentage) has shifted from TA0 to TA1 and greater TAs. Overall TA
measured changes larger.
Overall TA distribution is almost similar as 3G TP distribution (Same area(Buaran01),

TA0(0-275m)->TP0(0-234m), TA1(275-825m)->TP1+TP2(234-702m) coz most of 2G and 3G sites co-located
with almost same site to site distance and most of sites have been audited and tilting set to its coverage objective.
Observed most of measured samples are concentrated in distance range 0-400m.

BTS3000V100R014 make a change of TA optimization to get more accurate.

It will make the TA change larger, it just affect the TA counter.
5 Conclusion
 For sampling inner BSC/RNC, compare 2G TA and 3G TP distribution in same area,

observed that most of measured samples are concentrated in distance range 0-400m
 Average site distance is 500~700m in inner BSCs but 2G TA measurement is 550m as
granularity, so it is not suitable to use TA distribution for coverage/overshooting
assessment.
 2G TA measurement accuracy in R14 is optimized compared to R13 and better which
is indicated in release notes.
 TA change larger after R14 BTS SW upgraded but it just affects the TA counter. No
impact on actual coverage profile and performance
