Key Takeaways
With SAP HANA Live SAP introduced the first Virtual Data Model based on SAP HANA
views to facilitate real-time operational reporting of SAP Business Suite data.
SAP Business Suite 4 SAP HANA provides enhanced analytical capabilities due to
the architecture based on SAP HANA – the value proposition gets enhanced by the
unique possibilities given with the new architecture, including reimagined simplified
business processes, user experience and business decisions
The new concept of one semantic layer for search, operational and analytical
processing using open CDS views optimized for SAP HANA technology and
infrastructure, allows real-time operational reporting and will be rolled out
in all deployments of S/4HANA, cloud and on premise
Q:
I have heard, SAP HANA Live is going into maintenance mode. Is this true?
A:
This is not correct. New SAP HANA Live data models have been just released and the next release is
planned for Q1/2016. The underlying technology (SAP HANA Calculation views) is a core SAP HANA
capability. and is more relevant than ever.
new simplified data models in SAP S/4HANA allow us to streamline the VDM’s and in order to support
ABAP-related use-cases like S/4HANA security and SAP Hierarchies we have build new Virtual Data
Models based on SAP Core Data Services (CDS).
The SAP HANA Live Virtual Data Models can be adapted to the new S/4HANA structures, but still
require a separate HANA security profile.
Q:
I/my customer intend/s to start a project using SAP HANA Live data models, what is SAP’s
recommendation to move on?
A:
Continue with the approach to create and extend SAP HANA Live Virtual Data Models is a very viable
approach:
There are still many use case for SAP HANA live on the existing data model
New CDS views will be released together with the new S/4HANA innovations. As the HANA Live and the CDS
views provide virtual data access, no data migration efforts are required, as offloading and reloading data efforts
or changes to ETL processes are not applicable
The HANA Live skill sets are viable for CDS views as well
The technical infrastructure for the maintenance of SAP CDS views is still in it’s early phase whereas in the case
of SAP HANA Live/SAP HANA calculation views this is highly developed.
