our church and community. It showcases new events that may not be
present in our monthly newsletter. The Weekly News is also posted

Welcome Visitors!
If this is your first time worshiping with us, we welcome
you. As a church we are committed to Love Jesus Christ
and to Share His Love. We offer three services: 8:30 and 11
a.m. are traditional, and 9:45 a.m. is contemporary.
~ Our Welcome Center is located in Oberholtzer Hall, the room next
to the sanctuary. Brochures on all our ministries are available there.
~ Our Holy Grounds Café is a place for light refreshments and coffee
from 8:30 a.m. - 12:15 p.m. each Sunday in our Fellowship Hall. The
café provides worshipers with an informal opportunity for fellowship.
~ Our Infant and Toddler Nurseries are available every Sunday from
8 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. They are located on the lower level of the church and
are staffed with our full-time, professional attendants and parent
volunteers.
~ Children’s Church for ages four through third grade is offered at the
11 a.m. service and is guided by a parent volunteer. Children will be
dismissed after the Children’s Message. Please pick up your children in
the lower level of the church following worship.
Opportunities to Grow Spiritually for Adults
Last Week for: "Come As You Are" - This is a great discipleship
opportunity to come together with your fellow Christians and encourage
one another! Grab a cup of coffee and head over to the Bridal Lounge
where Dave and Cathy Saunders will lead you to discuss the sermon,
share meaningful scriptures, and recount life's amazing God moments.

Mom’s Bible Study Re-launched! This group meets Thursday morning
from 9 - 10:15 a.m. to share fellowship, Bible study, and a good cup of
coffee! The study will take place in the Bridal Lounge, and led by our
associate pastor, Candy LaBar. Our first study topic focuses on the
"Not-So-Well-Known Women of the Bible." What can we learn from
these biblical women? As we explore their stories, what can we learn
about our own relationships with God? For more information please

The Best, Most Effective, Most Important Church in Your
Community! Hosted by Lehman UMC in Hatboro, PA is Friday evening
and Saturday, October 8 & 9. Some questions to ask yourself: Would
your community suffer if your Church closed? Does your Church
challenge, bless and strengthen the community it is in? Is your attitude
that you want the Church to be the best, most effective and most
important in your community? If not, then this time of gathering,
experiencing and learning could be just for you and the Church you

World Vision - Marge Keenhold is our church representative with World
Vision. You can stop by Fellowship Hall today and sponsor a child in
need and help them to experience life in all its fullness.
 Opportunities for Connecting & Fellowship
Staff Parish Relations Committee received a letter September 15,
2010, from John F. Brush, Jr. notifying the church of his resignation.
John has been a loyal employee of the church for a number of years as
Director of Contemporary Worship and Maintenance. We wish John the
very best as he pursues other interests.
The Stine Class is collecting used cell phones for our troops serving
over seas. A collection box is in Oberholtzer Hall.
Mark your Calendar - IAM the movie will be
shown in our Fellowship Hall Sunday, October
10 at 7 p.m. This movie sends an important
message – 3500 years ago, God gave us the Ten
Commandments. Over time, most were
forgotten. This is an outreach event bring your
friends.
Pregnancy Resource Center of the Poconos 2010 Walk for Life is
Saturday, October 2. This is a wonderful opportunity to raise funds for
the center which in turn helps young families in need throughout the
Poconos. Anyone can participate! Please see Jill Malefyt or Jenni Poole
to get a sponsor sheet or for more information. Also, a volunteer
training will be held October 5, 7, 12, 14, 19, 21, 26, 28 from 6:30 -

Older Kids, a 55+ aged group will meets at the church Tuesday,
October 12 from 12 – 2 p.m. in Fellowship Hall. Bring a pot-luck dish
with you and enjoy a time fellowship. You need not be a member, so
bring a friend.
Adult Co-ed Recreational Basketball meets every Monday at 8 p.m.

rear of the sanctuary or on the back of the friendship pad, making sure to

 Opportunities to Celebrate God through Worship
Welcome Back, Adult Bell Choir! Many thanks also to Lindsay
Randall for playing timpani at 11a.m. today. All the Choirs are excited
to begin the new season and would love to welcome new members!
Especially needed are one or two strong persons to ring the largest bells.
Also, altos and a high soprano would be helpful in the Chancel Choir.
YOU can learn music and grow in spiritual fellowship by serving in
music here on Sundays and for special events in the wider community.
The Chime Choir (3rd grade up), the Youth Ringers, and the Children's
Choir will participate in worship services in October. See weekly

"Fanfares, Fifes, and Faith" today at 3 p.m. - Concert by Gordon
Turk, virtuoso Organist at the Great Auditorium in Ocean Grove, NJ, of
the Methodist Camp Meeting Association. "Fanfares" are short, bright
introductory flourishes, "Fifes" means the flute-like sounds of music for
pipes, and "Faith" refers to the hymns of our spiritual heritage. Dr. Turk,
whose father was a United Methodist pastor, has a deep love for church
music. He has also presented classical concerts at the highest musical
levels in the USA, Europe, Russia, and Japan.

Our lives are delicately balanced. A small shift in one
area of life can set us off balance. A major change can
send us spinning out of control. Stephen Ministers can help when life
gets out of balance. They listen and care and most importantly, bring the
stability of Jesus' love and grace into people's lives. If your life or those
of someone you know has shifted out of balance, consider Stephen

Homebound and Care Facility church members are always happy to be

Dr. Alan Wolfelt, internationally known grief expert, will speak on the
10 Essential Touchstones for Finding Hope and Healing Your Hurting
Heart Sunday, October 17 from 7-9 p.m. at the Wesley United Methodist
Church, 2540 Center St., Bethlehem, Pa. 18017. This program is geared
toward those who are grieving the loss of a loved one and those who
desire to walk beside them.
Altar Flowers are given to members who are homebound, in care
facilities, or in the hospital. 12 ounce plastic coffee containers or juice
cans make good containers for delivering them. Please save your empty
containers and give them to Peggy in the church office.
 Opportunities to Grow Spiritually
The Davis Class will have their monthly meeting at the home of
Margaret Dagger (3243 Wigwam Park Road) Monday, September 27 at
1 p.m. Parking is limited, please plan on car-pooling.
United Methodist Women Muffins and Missions is today from 9:45
- 10:45 a.m. in Fellowship Hall. All women are invited to learn about the
United Methodist reading program. This program includes contemporary
books in four categories relating to the purpose of the United Methodist
Women — Spiritual Growth, Education for Mission, Nurturing for
Community, and Social Action.
Children’s Ministry Nursery - Sixth Grade
Children's Choir Begins Today at 9 a.m. in the Choir Room! Parents
are requested to bring calendars and sign up for a turn as the "choir
helper" during the school year. If your child is new this year, there is a
registration form for you to fill out as well.
Lord’s Army, our after-school program for fourth - sixth graders,
begins this Tuesday, September 28. Transportation is limited from JM
Hill and Stroudsburg Middle & Intermediate Schools. ESE and JTL
could be included with parent volunteers. Space is limited, please call
Sue Randall to register at 421-3280.
Sunday School Is Short On Teachers! If anyone is interested in
teaching our children, we would sincerely appreciate your help. Even
teaching just once a month would be a huge help. All age levels have
openings for additional teachers. Please contact Sue Randall for

Youth Praise Dance (9 years and up) meets in the Fellowship Hall

Opportunities to Grow Spiritually
Youth Ministry - Entering 7th - 12th Grades
Jr. & Sr. High Sunday School Classes meet at 11 a.m. Youth Room.
Sunday Night Program meets weekly from 7 - 8:30 p.m. There will be
a mix of games, message, and discussion. The next few weeks we will
be discussing "Radical Hospitality" and how it applies to our church.
Youth Praise Band: With the new youth room nearing completion, we
are really looking to ramp up the youth praise band. Practices are every
Wednesday night from 7 - 8:30 p.m. Anyone interested in playing an
instrument or singing should contact Scott Kuhnle at 421-3280.
New Thursday Schedule and New Events
1. J.A.M, after- school program, for 7-8th grades is from 2:45 - 5 p.m.
Church vans will be available to pickup any interested students from
JTL, Stroudsburg Middle and Jr. High. JAM is a time of fun and
fellowship. Permission forms are needed, please email Scott at
skuhnle@esumc.net.
2. New Fellowship Meal from 5 - 6 p.m. for all 7 - 12th grade students.
Come hang out with your friends and meet new people while sharing
a meal together, followed by . . .
3. Small Group Bible Studies from 6-7:30 p.m.
- Jr. High Girls & Boys have an opportunity to grow in their faith
journey by joining in one of these studies.
- Sr. High - John and Amy Hollister, Dave Thompson, and Scott
Kuhnle will be leading an important study on what God says about
money. Topics will include the "Value of You," "Materialism
Mayhem," "Money Minds," and "The Gift of Giving."
Service Saturdays on the first Saturday of every month, starting October
2. Youth will be able to serve our community through local missions
projects. In order to make this program work, we will need several
adult volunteers---please let Scott know if you are interested.
Fall Retreat is Friday October 29 – Sunday October 31 at Twin Pines
Retreat Center in Stroudsburg. We will be teaming up with the youth
from Hopewell UMC for a weekend of fellowship and worship. Please
