To Whom It May Concern:

I am writing to express my interest in a position as a special education teacher. I am currently completing

my second year teaching as a special education teacher in Ferndale Public Schools. Previously, I worked
as a resource room teacher at Lincoln Middle School in Van Dyke Public Schools. Prior to that, I
completed my yearlong student teaching internship in the 5-year Teacher Education program at Michigan
State University and I am currently completing my coursework to gain my master’s degree in autism
spectrum disorders.

My current position is a self-contained autism spectrum disorder teacher at a kindergarten-2nd grade

campus. My current classroom consists of 6 students in multiple grades with disabilities ranging from
Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD), Cognitive Impairment (CI) and Severe Multiple Impairment (SXI).
During the 2016-2017 school year, I taught in a middle school language arts resource room setting, while
also co-teaching 7th and 8th grade mathematics. During this time, I had 16 students on my caseload with
disabilities ranging from Speech and Language Impairment (SLI), Learning Disabilities (LD), Emotional
Impairment (EI), ADHD and Otherwise Health Impaired (OHI) and Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD).

I am prepared to use the knowledge and skills I have learned during my time at Michigan State University
and during my first two years as a teacher to create a classroom which values independence, evidence-
based interventions and data-based decision making for all students. I am ready to take on a leadership
role in order to support a multi-tiered system of support (RTI) or assist in creating this type of building
wide system to better serve our most at-risk students, but to also impact the social, emotional and
educational needs of all students.

As a special education teacher, my biggest role is to meet the IEP goals of all students on my caseload
and allow my students to access the general education curriculum whenever is possible. With my role
including both academic and behavior support, I hold myself accountable for student learning and aim to
be self-evaluative in order to adjust my instruction whenever students will benefit most. I value teaching
and learning strategies that are based on student-lead learning; I aim for my students to make their
thinking visible and show what they know.

I currently hold a Michigan teaching certificate, which allows me to teach all subjects K-5 elementary
education, K-12 learning disabilities, K-12 autism spectrum disorders and grades 6-8 in my teaching
minor of English language arts. I have successfully passed all of Michigan Tests of Teacher Certification
(MTTC), including: MTTC-Basic Skills, MTTC-Elementary (ZG), MTTC-LD (SM), MTTC-ASD (SV)
and MTTC-LA (BX).

Enclosed are my resume, a list of professional references and letters of recommendation, a copy of my
teaching certificate and a copy of my official transcripts. I have also provided a link to my personal
education website. Here you will find additional information about me, including my teaching philosophy
and lesson plans. Please do not hesitate to call or write if I can answer any additional questions. I look
forward to hearing from you in the future.

Respectfully,
Taylor Forest
