PROJECT SUMMARY:

The City of Richmond will be conducting the ongoing rehabilitation of deteriorated sewer mains in the area
bordered by Stuart and Grove Avenues, to the north and south and Rowland St. and Stratford Ave. to the
east and west. (See the highlighted areas in the map below) Starting Monday April 9, 2018 preparation for
Cast In Place sewer lining work will be performed and is expected to last 7-days; weather permitting.

Please expect disruptions to traffic patterns and parking restrictions. Due to the size of the existing
sewers and the nature of the materials and installation procedures this type of work is expected to extend
beyond the normal daylight working hours.
You will notice a number of large trucks that will be positioned within the work zones and an increased
level of noise from vehicles and equipment. You may also notice strong “plastic” or “adhesive” type
odors. These are byproducts of the materials curing process and are not harmful.

All residents that will be affected by service disruptions will receive a minimum of 24 hours notice prior to
any work commencing. This notice will be given via a “door hanger” style tag that will be hand delivered
to the residents affected by the impending disruption.

WHAT’S HAPPENING NOW:

Scheduling and notification is subject to change due to inclement weather, equipment problems, etc.

SEE REVERSE FOR FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Rev: 3/30/18
1. What is the purpose of the project? To repair damaged and deteriorated sections of the sewer main.

2. What are the conditions of the existing sewer pipe that needs repair? Most sewers were installed in
Q u e s t i o n s

the early 1900’s and have deteriorated and begun to leak. If not addressed, settling of road surfaces,
back-ups, and other problems may occur.

3. How will this project affect my sewer service, and how will I be notified? Our goal is to minimize the
impact on residents and local businesses. As the project progresses, the Contractor will notify residents
and businesses via door hanger notices prior to work starting on your block. There may be times when
you are asked to limit or reduce the amount of water you discharge to the sewer. The door hanger will let
you know if your sewer service is affected. Businesses will be contacted to ensure reasonable
accommodations are made to minimize disruption of commercial services.

4. How long will the project take? This assignment is nearing completion and the remaining work is not
expected to take me than 30 days to complete.

5. Will sidewalks be impacted?

In most cases sidewalks will remain open for pedestrian traffic. If sidewalks or crosswalks need to be
closed, for public safety, pedestrians will be rerouted to safer pathways of travel.

6. How will traffic be affected? The temporary traffic control plans will allow construction to proceed safely
A s k e d

while attempting to minimize impacts to the public. When possible, vehicles will be rerouted past any
closed travel lanes but some road closures with detours may occur. Road closures will be posted on the
City’s social media sites. http://richmondvastreetcloser.blogspot.com/ Every effort will be made to allow
access to residences and businesses when it’s feasible and safe.

7. How will parking be impacted? Please observe and follow directions of “Closed Lanes” and “No
Parking” signs around the work zone areas. Parking will be limited for the safety of citizens as well as
construction personnel. Any areas of No Parking will be posted at least 48 hours in advance of the work
being performed

8. Who do I call? Scott Johns 804-869-8860 David Campbell at 703-628-7067.
