The Qualities of the man God wants to use to grow his church
In Acts of the Apostles chapter 6 verse 3, when the apostles found themselves wanting, in serving the
Hellenists, they asked that seven men should be chosen, and this verse gives us their qualities,
“Therefore select out from among yourselves, brethren, seven men of good and attested character and
repute, full of the [Holy] Spirit and wisdom, whom we may assign to look after this business and du-
ty.” The early church was a growing church led by men of Godly character. I think the greatest mira-
cle in Acts, is the men serving the women in the early church. These men were saved, sanctified, bap-
tized in the holy Spirit and willing to be used by God. On this occasion of fathers’ day, it is my pray-
er that all believing men will ask God, what type of man do I need to be in order to be used by you?
In Acts 2:14 we come across Peter, a brave man lifting his voice to defend Christ. In Acts 7:1 we
meet Stephen being used by God to preach. Again in Acts 9:27, God used Barnabas to introduce Paul
the apostle to the church and encouraged him. These men were not ordinary, casual men after God’s
own heart. Elijah was courageous and prayerful, so God used him. His life commanded respect,
though he was not a man of society chasing fame. Daniel was so excellent a man that he refused to be
bribed by the king’s food. John the Baptist was a man sent from God. Can you be said to be a man
from God with a godly attitude and character? God told Ananias about Paul, “he is a chosen vessel of
honor to preach Christ to the gentiles? Does your vessel carry special oil of anointing to minister to
your family, friends and community? Nicodemus told Jesus, “Thou art from God,” Where do you
stand as a Christian man in your family, workplace and community? Do not idle about, because time
for service to God is short. Every church wants to grow. God is not interested in methods, but men
who will be influenced by the Holy Spirit. God created Adam, but he failed. God worked with Noah,
Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph (a man who refused the scholarship to defile himself), Moses and
Joshua because they followed God closely. Churches want to acquire machines, gadgets, loudspeak-
er, methods, messages, but God is interested in holy men who can swear to their own hurt. King Saul
took a wrong step in disobedience. God told Samuel that, “I have rejected him.” God used David in
spite of his short comings because he was willing to repent, forsake his sin and obey God. God is
seeking for a man among us who would build up the wall and stand in the breach before him for our
community and nation; that God should not destroy it; but will God find you? Churches want more
money, but God is looking for matured men, humble as sheep, and harmless as doves. Jesus Christ
said, “unless you be converted as a child.” God wants us to be as innocent as little children. God
wants us to have authority of faith and prayer as our hearts pant for Him like the deer pants for water.
We should be crucified to the world and the world crucified to us. God is looking for spiritual, conse-
crated, anointed men, who have their sacrifice on the altar. Jesus Christ spent all night in prayer wait-
ing upon the Lord. There is a price to pay because God does not play or joke but serious. He gives the
keys of heaven to industrious, faithful and selfless men. God is looking for men of secret power,
searching purity, scriptural preaching, spiritual perception, single purpose, sound principle, supernat-
ural power, and strong persuasion. Happy father’s day!!!!
