The question
comes about, “why should we help Syrian refugees?”. Syrians are stuck in what seems like a
never ending nightmare. What they have right now is a limited amount of food, water, and little
to no medical aid. Syrian refugees are also flooding into many countries that we are allies with in
Europe. If we don’t do anything to help whose to say that Europe will help us if we ever have a
refugee issue. We need to help to try and keep our allies happy and end any problems that the US
can get dragged into. It is also known that Al- Assad is using chemical weapons against his
people just like Hitler did. This is could turn into a Holocaust and who's to say we can stop it this
time?
The US has done what they can to help Syria like sending aid to the running refugees.
“The US has already provided nearly $1 billion in assistance and Congress seems supportive of
more”(Christian Science Monitor). Along with this the United Nation has provided “the largest
appeal ever ever for humanitarian aid- $5 billion” (Christian Science Monitor). Even though
money is being sent it is not enough. Not enough food, health aid, room, etc are being provided
for Syrians.
Along with money being sent to the Syrian people, surrounding countries are providing
camps to house the refugees. Camps have been provided in Jordan, Lebanon, Turkey, for those
who absolutely need it. The camps give each family a small orange tents and a source of food.
Around the camps are human waste and trash since there’s no form of a waste system. With the
waste surrounding the people, sicknesses have become extremely easy to catch and be spreaded.
Knowing it’s only temporary the Syrians deal with the risks. The refugee camps aren’t the best
or cleanest, but they give Syrian refugees a sense of security . As long as they’re away from
Syria, they’re safe. Countries surrounding Syria are still growing and cannot provide anymore
room for Syrians. As a school and community this is our opportunity to make a change. To help
Syrian refugees, I propose that the school should have a couple days where the communities,
students, and teachers can donate anything they have no use for and cash.
