CLASSIFICATION

Way of Classification

The basic purpose of any library classification should be to arrange the documents in a
method most convenient to the users and to the library staff. The documents should be
arranged in classes, and based on the mutual relations between them. This would bring
together closely related classes. In other words, related documents would be grouped in
close proximity, the basic idea being that like classes are brought together and unlike classes
are separated.

A library classification is a system of coding and organizing documents or library materials

such as books, serials, audio-visual materials, computer files, maps, manuscripts, realia.
According to their subject and allocating a call number that information resource.
Bibliographic classification systems group entities together that are relevant to the same
subject, typically arranged in a hierarchical tree structure (like classification systems used in
biology). As the way of classification, the Aqua Library use the name and the physical
characteristic of sea creatures to classify the type each collection.

c. Searching features

I. Search by keywords
Every library in the world has their own searching tools in order to make it
easy for the users to search and find the material that they need. This
searching system develops from year to year.

Searching process in this Aqua Library can be in various types. For an

example, we can search the materials using Truncation, Wildcard and
Boolean searching.

Our library provides the same system that most library used for searching.
User can search the material that they need using keywords like title,
author, and etc for easier and faster searching option. This option enables
user to search the desired materials in the fastest way. If they are not
really sure of the title of the book, they can also search by the subject.

II. Filtering option (by year, by author, etc)

Aqua Library also provides Filtering Option for the users to search the
desired material. The Filtering Option can be used using four elements or
ways which are by year, by title, by place of publication, and lastly by
which library the book is available.

If user use filtering option by place of publication, all books that are
published in that place will appear on the screen. For example, if user
type the place of publication is Shah Alam, all books that have been
published in Shah Alam area will appear without considering the title or
year of publication.

By filtering, the results of the search can be reduced. Therefore, Filtering

Option can save a lot of time. This makes the library system more efficient
and user friendly. User can choose any method of filtering that is suitable
with their need.
