EXTENSION:

1. Pretend you were Paul. Using these ideas, develop his motto (10 words or less)
2. What is your motto?
3. Paul describes life as a race. Do you agree with this metaphor? What metaphor would you use to
describe life/your life? Why?
 St. Paul was very energetic and passionate when he spoke to people. He was
also very committed to spreading Jesus’ teachings to parts of the Roman Empire
which were previously untouched by Jesus’ disciples. Paul never approached tasks
half hearted; instead lived out his beliefs as if they were the most important things
in the world. He believed that living the law was the way to please God and live a
holy, just life.

 Paul often wrote to the groups of Christians he had visited or established/ He

used kind, gentle words in order to encourage them to commit to Jesus’ teachings
during good time and bad times rather than punishing them for failing during the
bad times.

 Throughout the book of Acts, Paul is described as travelling and preaching with
companions. This means that he valued friendship and enjoyed being in the
company of others. While he sometimes argued with his companions, this taught
him valuable lessons about dealing with others which he could then pass onto
communities he visited.

 Paul was a great speaker. His education allowed him to be able to relate to
people of different cultures and backgrounds. He often quoted poetry and was
able to weave fabric to make tents.

 Paul showed an interest in athletics and this was sometimes reflected in his
writings. His home town, Tarsus, would have had places where Paul could have
watched or participated in athletic activities.

 St. Paul was a great Christian leader as he knew that his mission wasn’t going to
be easy. He knew what demands the Gospel messages carried and used his
experiences and hardships to inform and motivate others to persevere during the
Roman Empire’s persecution of Christians.
