It shows the ease of use and power of combining CADWond/PIPE and AutoCAD to form a pipework design engineering solution. It begins with basic commands and develops through the addition of more advanced features to the production of engineering drawings and their associated documentation. Pre-requisites All course delegates should have a general understanding of process piping systems terminology and the design of such systems. It is also assumed that they have knowledge of, and put into practice, good engineering drawing principles. Further, the CADWorx/PIPE course is based upon delegates having the ability to draw using introductory level AutoCAD skills. These are the minimum requirements for delegates wishing to attend the course; without these skills, the course may be undermined for the individual and other delegates. Main Aims Initially, delegates are shown how to set up drawings and store or recall standard settings or make user specific configurations. Upon completion of the course all delegates should be able to produce 3D piping models and 2D layout drawings and sections based upon the model. Delegates should have knowledge of how to generate automatic isometrics for both fabrication and stress analysis reporting. Delegates should understand how to use the specifications supplied with CADWorx/PIPE and how to create and amend them as necessary. Delegates should be able to create their own steelwork structures, walkways etc. using the included Steelwork Module. They will be given an appreciation of the equipment modeling modules and shown how these can be enhanced using solid modeling commands within native AutoCAD. They will be shown how to produce Bills of Material (BOM's), both within the drawing and exported to external files. Additionally, delegates should be able to create a pipework database and populate it with data from drawings produced either automatically into a new database, or by amending the data in an existing database. The aim of this section is to teach proficient CAD users how they can easily create models utilising a 2D approach. In this section the user will gain an awareness of producing a piping model in 2D Double Line and Single Line modes. Also, the user will learn to use the commands for Elevation and Automated sections. The section will be progressed through continuation of the model already started and all delegates will work through a practical tutorial together. It will be completed with a simple exercise for delegates to practice alone. Preparing 2D Model Open CADWorxPIPE2.dwg and use the AutoCAD menu command File > SaveAs and save the file as CADWorxPIPE3.dwg, Change Main size to 150, count to 501 and amend service to read OSL (Oil Supply Line). Verify the modified line number using current system command. The Line number should now read 150-OSL-501-300_MM Using AutoCAD commands Attach C:\Training\Masters\VerticalVessel.dwg This should be positioned in the centre on the top of the vessel plinth. This section will cover the use of CADWorx/PIPE Point and Shoot UCS and also the use of AutoCAD view points commands, which, when used correctly, can aid enormously in the production of your pipework models. Point and Shoot UCS ‘One of the reasons AutoCAD is such a powerful program is that it allows the user to. manipulate the X, Y, Z, coordinate system, UCS (user coordinate system). This is the heart of CADWor/PIPE's system for drawing in 3D. To utilise this program to its’ full potential, the user needs to be familiar and comfortable with the Point and Shoot system of manipulating the UCS. After a short period of time, it will become quite simple, UCSICON options needs to be On (visible) and set to Origin. This allows the user to see exactly where the icon is at all times. Although it isn't necessary, it is highly recommended that it is positioned somewhere on the centerline of the components that are being drawn. This will keep everything in the same plane. If the user has to turn into another plane, use UCS NEXT or choose the appropriate plane (North, South, East, West, or Flat) and place the icon on the centreline of the new plane. If the user cannot see the rubber band effect, or if it doesn't appear correct, they are ‘out of plane’. Users should always pay attention to the icon as it shows where they are. If the broken pencil icon appears, and there are strange lines on the screen instead of pipe and components, the user’s current plane is perpendicular to the viewpoint. Try an Undo or change the viewpoint. When dimensioning or annotating an isometric or 3D model, the user should place the UCS icon on a node or a centerline on the run they are working on. Text will have the same orientation as the icon. CADWorx/PIPE settings for five standard planes are provided: - gItteugee Fa] VIEWFLAT The view flat function can be loaded by selecting Flat from the UCS Toolbar, or by selecting Menu from Pipe Menu > UGS > FLAT or by typing “VIEWFLAT™ (alias VF) at the command prompt. Gute eel@® (Ucs objec UGS Object This command provides the Object option of the UCS command. Please refer to the AutoCAD documentation on the UCS (User Coordinate System) for more detail. The command allows the user to select an object in the drawing to orient the UCS. Training tip 8. This command is very useful for rearranging dimensions in model space (MSPACE) of a CADWorX/PIPE isometric. Run this command and then select the dimension. It places the UCS according to the position of the dimension allowing it to be stretched and moved. [Compass| Compass This command provides a compass type preview of the desired Point and Shoot orientation. This is not really a true compass but does provide the user with a choice of planes to choose from. A view such as Viewnorth or Viewsouth will be oriented in the East - West direction. This indicates a view north elevation (or plane) as looking in a north direction. ‘The compass command provides less experienced users with an easy to follow set of rules to help set the UCS to the correct view for a given task. Copyright © 2001; 2002 Fern Computer Consultancy Ltd Page 40 of 179 July 2002 Revision 2 CADWorx/PIPE ©efio Training Course ENGINEERING SOFTWARE Yy ob a = The two obvious Point and Shoot orientations shown above would be Viewnorth and ViewWest. This allows proper placement of text and other objects. It also provides the user with a positive X direction as normal instead of it being backwards. As the display's orientation is changed, the compass changes accordingly. Viewpoint Commands ‘Once you start modelling, it is necessary to view the three-dimensional (3D) pipework model from different directions and /or angles. The direction from which a 3D model is viewed is referred to as the viewpoint. AutoCAD's five methods for viewing a 3D model are described below. For detailed instructions on using each of these methods, refer to the related topics in AutoCAD Heb: Wen oar RRO EES PAADIAA\ OO 0 Ole Predefined Views To access predefined views; from the View menu choose Named Views. The View dialogue box contains the following tabs: Named Views tab. Lists the current view as well as any views that the user has created; location, UCS, and perspective information about each of the named views is also displayed on this tab. Orthographic and Isometric Views tab. contains the predefined view choices with a slide image showing the viewing direction. For additional information, refer to the software user's guide. DDVPOINT command Type DDVPOINT on the command line. The Viewpoint Presets dialogue box is displayed. This dialogue box has preset angles, measured from the X axis and from the XY plane, that you can select. Many standard-viewing angles can be chosen and mixed using this feature. You can also manually enter the degree of the viewing angle. For additional information, refer to Help and search on DDVPOINT. Copyright © 2001; 2002 Fern Computer Consultancy Ltd Page 41 of 179 July 2002 Revision 2 | a CADWorx/PIPE Oe Training Course Se eee ee er VPOINT command This command has two options: Rotate and Display compass and tripod. Rotate. Prompts for the degree of the angle from the X-axis and from the XY plane. Display compass and tripod. You can use this option in two ways. If you press ENTER or SPACEBAR to continue the command, the compass and tripod selection method is used. If you right-click to continue the command, a User Interface on the graphics screen is used to select the X-axis and XY plane degrees, For additional information, refer to online Help and search on VPOINT. DVIEW command The DVIEW command allows the most control for creating custom views. You can control viewpoint settings many different ways with this feature, enabling you to create custom view adjustments often needed for rendered images. You can create either a paralle! projection or a perspective view and zoom, pan, and twist views. You can also use DVIEW to remove objects from in front of and behind a clipping plane and to remove hidden lines during a dynamic viewing operation. With DVIEW you can limit the number of objects displayed while creating a view magnification and orientation. For additional information, refer to Help and search on DVIEW. 3DORBIT command Use the 3DORBIT command to create custom views. Similar to DVIEW, 3DORBIT activates a 3D orbit in the current viewport in the form of an arcball, which is a circle divided into four quadrants by smaller circles. When 3DORBIT is active, the target of the view remains stationary and the camera location, or point of view, moves around the target. For additional information, refer to Help and search on 3DORBIT. BI PPPAAB\CCOO|# [Named Views Tip ~: After you set viewpoint, save it to a named view by using the VIEW command so it can be restored later. You will save time and increase drawing productivity. The specifications themselves are subdivided into library files which allow ease of use and give great flexibility to the application. CADWorx/PIPE is supplied with several standard template specifications: 150, 300, 600, 900, 1500, and 2500 pound pressure ratings etc. The user can modify, rename, or create any other specifications using the Specification Editor as required. The specifications used with CADWor/PIPE are the same as the ones used with CADWor/P&ID. It is advised to locate the specifications in a central directory if both programs are used together. Please refer to the following Edit Configuration section for more information on locating these directories other in locations than their default \SPEC directory. One way this is achieved in CADWorx is by the production of automated BOM's (Bills of Materials). Drawing files can be linked to a database from the very start of a project or they can be appended into an existing database at a later date. This section will cover the setting up of these database links. Once created, the pipework database can be used to automatically generate a multitude of different reports. Database Links The link into the database can be set up in number of different ways. Two methods are described below. The first is by setting link and synchronising .The second is by using the append to database function. Open CADWorxPIPE14.dwg. Filed in Directory C:\Training\CADWorxPIPE\Masters. Setup Database The setup database function can be loaded by selecting Menu from Pipe Menu > Accessory > Database > Setup or by typing “LIVEDB” at the command prompt. Live Database Dialogue Box Settings Below is a description of the function contained with this dialogue box. On/Off This toggle tums the live database system on and off. When the system is on, all components drawn are updated to the database instantaneously. Changes can be made in the drawing or in the database. When the system is off, all CADWord/PIPE component information is stored within the drawing only. Database Type These options toggle the type of database to be used as the live database in CADWorx/PIPE. Depending on the Database Type chosen, the path to the database or schema is displayed below. Please refer to Oracle.txt and SQL Server.txt located in the \SYSTEM directory for more information on setting up Oracle or SQL Server respectively. Live DB - Path Once the database type is chosen, click on the Create Table button ... to create the PIPE table in the database. This is for creating a completely new database table. No dialogue (new drawings are always in the live database). This option requires that a new drawing be given a name and saved immediately on creation, No dialogue (new drawings are never in the live database). This option does not add new drawings to the live database. They can be added to the live database using the command. Note: Drawings that use a live database should be in the same directory with the appropriate configuration file. Show dialogue. The dialogue allows the user to optionally add drawings to the live database. a Create new Drawing i ujesi baie eae aoe The Settings button allows the user to change settings that control whether this dialogue appears on start up or not. Note: Existing drawings can be added to the database by using the DBFGEN command. Synchronize Database This function checks all components in the drawing and updates them according to the current value within the database tables. This function will check every component within the drawing. The setup database function can be loaded by selecting Menu from Pipe Menu > Accessory > Database > Synchronize or by typing “SYNC” at the command prompt. Copyright © 2001; 2002 Fern Computer Consultancy Ltd Page 101 of 179 July 2002 Revision 2 VE G SOFTWARE CADWorxiPIPE © Training Course = *** Command: SYNC The user will be prompted to confirm the synchronization of the drawing with the database as shown below. CO) Spreritana tine aii et] A user would use the SYNC function to update the drawing (this is particularly important if it is known that someone is working in the project database). When a drawing(s) has a live database attached, the user can enter the database and change fields located within the PIPE table. The column values which can be modified are the ALPHA_SIZE, SHORT_DESC, LONG_DESC, TAG, LINE_NUM, DB_CODE, and WEIGHT. Changing any other column value will not have any effect on the drawing, If the SPEC_FILE column value is changed, the values in the other columns listed above will be ignored. The SPEC_FILE column value must be changed to an existing valid specification. The column values listed above will be updated according to the information derived from the specification. When a specification is changed, it must match the base rating of the specification. For example, changing a component from a 150 Ib rated specification to a 300 Ib rated specification will cause discontinuity within the drawing. This discontinuity will not present itself until a mode convert is performed on the component. Export to Database This function can export CADWorx component information to a ODBC (Open Database Connectivity) compliant database. After executing the command, selection of components from the drawing is required. After selection, the following dialogue will appear requesting the type of database desired. The database Export function can be loaded by selecting Menu from Pipe Menu > Accessory > Database > Export or by typing “DBFGEN” at the command prompt. Note: CADWorx/PIPE supports only Access and Excel when using the DBFGEN command. CADWony/PIPE requires 32 bit ODBC drivers (version 3.0 or later) included with WIN Q5INT. If for some reason, the ODBC operation fails, try re-installing the ODBC drivers from the CADWorx CD. The Append/Sync this function can be used to maintain a perfect database at all times. When the Append/Syne toggle is selected, the exported information will Copyright © 2001; 2002 Fern Computer Consultancy Ltd Page 102 of 179 July 2002 Revision 2 CADWorx/PIPE (CofE Training Course —semssnine sortwane update the database intelligently. Items that have been deleted in the drawing(s) will be deleted out of the database. Items that have been changed in the drawing(s) will be changed in the database. This functionality can be used once a day or several times an hour, depending on personal preference and drawing/database activity. This toggle will always maintain a database according to the drawing(s).
