EXPLANATION

Heading Format (page 62 in the APA manual). Level 1 headings are Centered, Boldfaced, Upper and
Lowercase letters so THEORY and METHODOLOGY would need to follow these guidelines. Theory and
Methodology

Using the correct number of level two headings in between level one headings (page 62 in the APA
manual). Since there are not two level two subheadings in each of the sections then both Integration,
values and mental health as well as The therapeutic team would be eliminated.

Proper indentation of paragraphs (use the tab key, not the space bar)(page 229)

The correct font (page 228) Documents should be in Times New Roman 12 point font.

Proper spacing of lines using automatic spacing in Microsoft Word (page 229) Double space between
all text lines of the manuscript. Double space after every line in the title, headings, footnotes,
quotations, references, and figure captions.

Setting the reference list off using a hard break page - example p. 49 and 59. The reference page should
be on a page by itself.

Colloquial expressions (page 68). Instead of saying Over a long period of time, you would want to be
more specific in your statement with a timeframe.

Correct tenses i.e. past, present, future (use past tense when referring to published documents and any
actions they describe). In the document, when speaking of Allports study from 1968, you would say
"He identified different life themes" rather than identifies

Presenting percent as a symbol (page 118). You would stated 5% were Asian-American.

Using correct seriation protocols (pages 63 and 64). Within the document, you would state (a) the
presence of a unifying life theme; (b) an overriding goal, giving meaning to all of life; and (c) values that
give direction to a goal since there are internal commas within this list.
Using appropriate terms for ethnic identity (page 75 and 76). Page 75 speaks of unparalleled
designations so you would want to say White and Black as opposed to White and African American.

Editing statements that are difficult to defend and tend toward hyperbole. In the article, it states that
Allport (1968) is far and away the expert. This would be an example of a hyperbole.

Correct punctuation. You would not have a period after Asian and American in the last paragraph.

The correct order for works cited in the same parentheses (they should be in the same order as they
appear on the reference list) (pages 177-178)

Properly capitalizing titles in the reference list (page 185)

The correct use of italics in the reference list (pages 185-186)

Spacing between the first and middle initials of the author's name in the reference list (page 184)

Personal communication would not be included in the reference list (page 179)
