Causes of Thermal Pollution

1. Water used as coolant & ejected back into water bodies

The water that is used as coolant and transferred back to natural water, thus the
natural water goes through a sudden rise in temperature.

2. Discharged of chemical pollutants into water

Factories situated by the river or lake discharge waste that are often higher than
the ordinary temperature of water, which causes the water to be warmer.

3. Release of cold water

Many industries liberate very cool water from their reservoirs. This water when
mixed up with warm water rivers, lakes or ponds creates an imbalance in the
flora and fauna of affected water bodies.

4. Water discharged from urban areas

Many urban areas like parking places, roads, etc., deposit rainwater and
discharge the heated water back into water bodies. The heated water disturbs
the normal temperature of natural water bodies.
