Dear Mr. Haven,

I would like to offer my application for the American Sign Language teaching position at
Bellarmine College Preparatory.

Bellarmine is dear to me having grown up with the school as a central part of my life. Both my
father and mother taught at Bellarmine for more than twenty years, and my father served as the
school’s principal. I was baptized by Father Wade in the Bellarmine chapel and started working
in the school bookstore with Mr. Orr when I was eleven years old. As a high school student, I
was an active member of the Bellarmine Theatre Tech program.

I was thrilled to see that in my time away from Bellarmine, the numerous course options for
students have expanded to include ASL. At a young age, I was drawn to learn more about the
deaf community, and, therefore, I studied American Sign Language in both high school and
college. Recently, I completed additional ASL studies at Gallaudet University. I attend deaf
events in my community on a regular basis in order to immerse myself more in the deaf culture.

In 2004, I moved to Reno, Nevada, to accept a position at Pappas Telecasting, an affiliate of CW

and Azteca America. My responsibilities included writing, filming, and editing commercials, as
well as communicating with clients. Eventually, I decided to pursue a career in education. I was
hired by Bishop Manogue Catholic High School as Videographer producing marketing videos
for the school’s Advancement and Admissions offices. In 2008, I moved to Katy, Texas, to work
for St. John XXIII High School (SJ23). At SJ23, I taught Film Studies, Film Production, Post
Production I and II, and Movies as Literature, as well as produced marketing videos and Lion
Nation News, the school’s media venue for announcements. In 2016, I moved to San Antonio,
Texas, to work at Antonian College Preparatory (ACP). At ACP, I teach Film Studies, Star Wars,
Sports Cinema, and ASL levels 1, 2, and 3. In addition to teaching, I moderate the Traveler’s
Club.

I completed my Bachelor of Arts degree at Arizona State University. I maintained a 4.07 GPA
while working full time. While at ASU, I completed their study abroad program, where I studied
international film, culture, and technology in New Zealand.

I am passionate about ASL, film, and teaching and would be honored to be associated with
Bellarmine. I believe that I have demonstrated the ability to be an effective teacher, and I would
very much like to have the opportunity to work with the administration, faculty, staff, and
students at Bellarmine College Preparatory. In addition to what I can bring to the school’s
curriculum, I believe that my previous experience in producing videos will also benefit the
school’s marketing department. I look forward to speaking with you to discuss the job position
further. I may be reached at 408-499-7752, or by email at kaipetersen45@gmail.com. Thank you
for your time and consideration.
Best Regards,

Kai Petersen
