(1) 238-9928 Valve As
Une nouvelle soupape de remplissage d'azote est utilisée dans les jambes de force avant et arrière des
camions hors route. La nouvelle vanne 238-9928 As (1) remplace la vanne existante 9T-2238 As (2) et la
vanne 175-3184 existante (3). Les vannes existantes ont un joint. La nouvelle valve a deux joints afin
d'aider à prévenir les fuites d'azote. Les mêmes filetages externes sont utilisés sur les nouvelles vannes et
sur les vannes existantes.
Remarque: Les vannes As (2) et 175-3184 (3) existantes 9T-2238 resteront utilisables sur les machines
antérieures. Les nouveaux collecteurs et les nouveaux ensembles de couvercle, qui sont compatibles
avec le nouveau 238-9928 Valve As (1), sont également disponibles auprès du service pièces détachées
en option pour une mise à niveau.
Remarque: La procédure de purge de la bouteille de suspension d'huile et d'azote a également été mise à
jour.

1. Remove the nitrogen charging valve. Refer to the Disassembly and Assembly for the proper
procedure.
An example of the location of the vent line
2. Drill a bore to a diameter of 6.2 mm (0.24 inch) into vent line (A). The depth of the bore is at least
14 mm (0.55 inch) through to the internal passage.
3. Use a 1/16-27 NPTF tap to thread each bore.
4. Apply 155-0695 Thread Lock Compound to the plug. Install 3D-4603 Pipe Plug.
5. Tighten the plug to a torque of 6 ± 2 N·m (53 ± 17 lb in).
Install the new valve

1. Prior to installing the charging valve, ensure that the mating surface is free of rust and of debris. A
surface finish of 3.5 micron is required.
2. Install 238-9928 Valve As, which includes a O-ring seal.
3. Tighten the hex of the main body to a torque of 13 ± 0.5 N·m (120 ± 5 lb in).
4. Ensure that the charging valve is installed perpendicular to the mating surface.
Procedure to Charge the Suspension Cylinders of Oil and

Nitrogen and/or Procedure to Purge the Suspension Cylinders of
Oil and Nitrogen
Note: This procedure is only for use with 238-9928 Valve As (1) .
Refer to the Service Manuals for the suspension cylinder for all warnings, other references and pictures.

Personal injury or death can result from sudden suspension cylinder

movement.
Sudden movement, up or down, can cause the clearance above your

head to change rapidly.
Read all warning labels on the suspension cylinders before servicing. Do

not check the oil in the suspension cylinder until all the nitrogen
pressure has been released.
Do not, under any condition, remove valves, cover or plugs from the
cylinder unless the rod is fully retracted and all the nitrogen pressure is
released.
Do not stand under the machine when testing or adjusting the

suspension cylinders.
NOTICE
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during
performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair
of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers
before opening any compartment or disassembling any component
containing fluids.
Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Dealer Service

Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain
fluids on Caterpillar products.
Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
238-9928 Valve As

1. Remove valve caps (A) from the charging valves that are located on each of the rear suspension
cylinders. Disconnect the charging hoses from the rest of the 9U-5617 Oil Refill Pump. Turn the
check valves on the 1S-8938 Chuck counterclockwise in order to ensure that the charging valves
will not open during installation. Install the charging hoses to charging valves with 1S-8938
Chucks. The charging hoses will be used to drain oil into an approved container.
2. Turn the check valves on the 1S-8938 Chucks clockwise. This opens the secondary seal in the
charging valves. Hold hex (B) while you loosen swivel nut (C). Loosen nut (C) by two and half
turns. This opens the primary seal. This allows oil and nitrogen to flow through charging valves.
When the suspension cylinders have bottomed completely, leave the check valves in position for
five minutes in order to allow the pressure in the suspension cylinders to equalize.
3. After the pressure has equalized, close the primary valve seal by tightening swivel nut (C) to a
torque of 6 ± 0.5 N·m (60 ± 5 lb in). Hold hex (B) while you tighten swivel nut (C). Then, turn the
check valves on 1S-8938 Chuck counterclockwise. This closes the secondary seal in the charging
valves.
4. Remove the charging hoses from charging valves. Attach the charging hoses to the rest of the 9U-
5617 Oil Refill Pump. Place the ends of the charging hoses into an approved container or into the
filler tube of the 9U-5617 Oil Refill Pump. Cycle some oil in order to ensure that the charging
hoses are full of clean oil. Attach the 1S-8938 Chucks to charging valves.
