i-Library Project
Maximizing E-Classroom Usage During Break Time

I. Rationale

We are living in a period where technology plays a crucial role in the education of our
learners. Truly, this could have been the reason why most of the time we make learning
interesting and possible to our students. Now that Information and Communication
Technology becomes one of the powerful media to impart learning to our students, it is high
time and imperative that we expose and familiarize them with these technologies so that they
could keep abreast with the trends and challenges of the present time.

With the increasing population of Domingo Yu Chu National High School brought by
the implementation of Senior High School and the strengthened quality education that it
provides; the school is now challenged to look at every possible move to meet the growing
demands of its primary clienteles.

Thus, Domingo Yu Chu National High School always finds ways to give students varied
opportunities to use ICT resources through its i-Library Project. This initiative is actually one
of the features of the division initiated project-Project e-CON21 (e-Con 21 or (Electronic
Convergence for the 21st Century Teaching, Learning and Governance) which covers the
implementation of DepED Computerization Program and other ICT-based projects of the
schools in the Division of Oriental Mindoro. Some of the ICT resources included in i-Library
are:

1. DOST STARBOOKS

STARBOOKS is the first digital science library-in-a-box that stands for Science and
Technology Academic and Research-Based Openly Operated Kiosk Station developed by
the Science and Technology Information Institute (STII) of the Department of Science and
Technology.

Acquired last September 2015, STARBOOKS is a user-friendly information portal that

can be accessed without Internet connection. It contains local and foreign S&T resources
in text, video, and audio formats including journals, investigatory materials, and livelihood
videos. The materials cover a diverse range of topics, from food and nutrition, health and
medicine, energy to environment, livelihood technologies, and many others.
2. Offline GCF Learn Free modules

The GCFLearnFree.org website has helped millions around the world learn the
essential skills they need to live and work in the 21st century. From Microsoft Office and
email to reading, math, and more, GCFLearnFree.org offers different topics, including
more than 2,000 lessons, 800+ videos, and 55+ interactives and games. DYCNHS
requested offline version of these modules, thus accessing the modules do not require
internet connection.

ACHIEVEMENTS

a. Participation of the school management

During the conception of the project in 2011, the school management under Dr. Carlito M.
Matibag has been very supportive from the conceptualization to its implementation and
evaluation. He checks if the students are really using the computer to ensure that the government
DepEd Computerization projects really help them. At present, Engr. Eligio C. Luz, DYCNHS School
Head continues to support the i-Library programs. The school also allotted budget for the internet
connection of the computer laboratory.

b. Promoting DCP

Moreover, the schools i-Library ensures that the DCP package is used 100 percent in its
support of the school’s call for Education for all. This further provides opportunities for students
to enjoy all resources of learning that DYCNHS offers.

c. Support of School Communities

The school is also fortunate because of the support it gets from various stakeholders. DOST
upgrades the STARBOOKS content every year. Furthermore, GCFlearnfree integrates new modules
in their offline version regularly.

EFFECTIVENESS

a. Outcome and Functionality of the Project

For more than five years of implementation, students justified how the project helped them
in ways beyond than what the school initially consider.

“Bilang isang STE student na gumagawa ng SIP, malaking tulong ang i-Library para sa amin.
Nakakapagresearch kami ng mga kailangan naming info para sa aming SIP.”
PAUL VINCENT RAMOS
Grade 7-STE

“Wala kaming ICT class ngayon, salamat sa i-Library nakakagamit kami ng computer during
lunch break para gawin ang aming mga projects.”
JERICO DALISAY
Grade 9-SPFL

“As a senior high school student na sobrang daming projects and requirements na
nangangailangan talaga ng internet. Buti na lang may i-Library, nagagawa namin yun during
lunch break.”
LOVELY CHARMAINE LLAVE
Grade 11-STEM

Ms. JENNIE VEE LARRACAS

Grade 7-Teacher

b. Length of the Implementation

DYC i-Library program started in 2011. To date, the i-Library project dubbed ‘Maximizing E-
Classroom Usage During Break Time’ has been of service for more than five years.

SUSTAINABILITY

a. Documentation
To watch the video visit this link https://bit.ly/DYCiLibrary or scan the QR
code.
Since its conception in 2011 as reflected in the action plan, the project never ceases in
meeting students’ needs. They are monitored and assisted by DYC iClub and Mr. Ines himself.
Every student is asked to log in in the computer laboratory log book.

b. Replicability of the project

Since the project is very simple, it can be easily replicated in any school that wish to maximize
the gifted DCP package to them. This only requires computer laboratory and an extra time of the
computer laboratory administrator to extend service to students who are the school’s primary
clienteles.
c. Implementing

To facilitate and monitor student usage, Computer card was released. Computer card is also
the membership card of the school’s ICT Club, also known as DYC iCLUB.

Computer Card

To use the i-Library, students must acquire computer card in a minimum cost of P10.00
subject for renewal every year. Students with computer card is entitled for ten (10) hours free
usage of i-Library. The fund raised from i-Library are used for the maintenance of the computer
laboratory like buying extra mouse, keyboards, headset, foot rags and floor wax.

When using the i-Library

1. The students will log in in the computer i-Library logbook.

2. Student will put the computer card in the Computer Seat Plan board in his/her corresponding
computer to be used.
3. Proceed to the assigned computer.
4. Computer laboratory administrator or Officer in charge will mark the card with the
corresponding date.

INNOVATIVENESS

a. Creativity on the integration of the available tool

Domingo Yu Chu National High School continuously commits itself to be of better service to
everyone. Hence, the school always finds ways to give students different ICT resources.

Some of these resources are STARBOOKS, GCFLearnFree Offline, Quipper School, Virtual
Desktop for CHS, W2School offline and others. All these resources were integrated in a webpage
and set as homepage of every computer in the computer laboratory for easy access of all
resources that the DYCNHS i-Library has.
