Death Penalty

1. The main idea of this article is to show that the death penalty is really just a waste of time
and doesn’t really stop crime

10. Giving criminals the death penalty does not help stop or lower crime. It does not help
lower crime because crime like murders are still happening everyday. According to Carol
Steiker from “The more we confront the death penalty, the less we like it”, “The death
penalty is not a necessary tool to prevent crime, as many law enforcement officials
acknowledge. The National Research Council of the National Academy of Sciences
concluded in 2012 that there is no reliable evidence that the death penalty helps to deter
murder.” (Drehle). There has not been actual evidence of the death penalty slowing down
crime as said by the National Research Council of the National Academy of Sciences. So
giving people the death penalty is not really helpful in any way and just gives those
sentenced a place to live and eat and costs way too much.
