Abstract

The PEP-app is made for the whole field or restorative dentistry, dental technicians and other involved disciplines.

• The PEP-app is a new and unique tool, which will be used in the esthetic sensitive area of dentistry, especially for the demanding task of the reconstruction of anterior
teeth.

!
• The PEP-app attends and involves the Patient through the whole process of the treatment, starting with the diagnostic process till the finalization of the
reconstruction.

!
• The PEP-app motivates the patient to define their wishes and to participate essentially at the process of the development and decision.

!
• The PEP-app integrates and bases on an established treatment model.

!
• The PEP-app documents and shows circuits, contradictions and misapprehensions. In each meeting with the patient, all alterations that have been developed in
collabroation with the patient will be documented with photos and viedeos.

• The PEP-app is a minimized form of communication between clincian and patient. But it‘s simplicity allows that the patient may cognitive comprehend each single
step of the treatment, to define their own thoughts and wishes and to realize them in the reconstruction.

• The PEP-app supports and documents the selections of the color-shade and material, the shade recipe, created by the dental technician and also all color
corrections are recorded. The same applies for the layering scheme of direct composite restorations.

• The PEP-app may be saved as PDF-file after the closure of the treatment and should be added to the patient’s medical history and serves also as quality assurance.

• This PEP-app is free of advertisement, independent of companies or products.

If you start using the PEP-app, you might get the impression, that this app answers too few or no
questions at all.

There is no Esthetic-Check-List nor a questionnaire nor anything similar.

That‘s right, all that is missing.

But this is exactly the PEP‘s success.

By compiling and classifying the patients into Check-lists or answering questionnaires, their
individuality, wishes and expectations will not be considered enough. The patients will get labeled
and conditioned. Because those applications correlate and base usually on our aquiered definition
of esthetic rules. Digital Esthetic-Imaging-Programs are working and calculating on the same
principles. Both, Checklists and digital engineering do not embrace the patient‘s individuality. This
doesn‘t mean, of course, that the patient cannot hold up to our professional knowledge. The
patients depend also on our support in esthetic matters. But very often the needs and wishes of
our patients doesn‘t correlate with the aquired conceptions of the treatment-team.

To integrate the PEP-app into the planning- and treatment-process means to invest time. Time to
listen to the patients and to sketch and document their wishes in a simple and comprehensible
fashion. Time to admit emotions and to develop empathy.

The patients are motivated to define their wishes and to participate essentially at the developing
process of their reconstructions actively through the act of recording, scruntinzing and explaining.
In the meantime the process remains cognitively comprehensible for the patients, so we will be
able to produce a solution suitable for the patients as well as for the clinicians.

The initial idea, previous to the PEP-app, which was based „analog and on paper“ has been
published and wil give you further informations.

 Informations:

Important general informations, that you should read carefully.

!
• Make sure, that the clinical condition allows the realization of the desired
reconstruction.

!
• Alter the PEP protocol and drafts only in the precence of the patient.

!
• Forward all, with the patient accquired, alternations to all treatment-team-
members.

!
• The „Patient supported Esthetic Protocol“ can only show the neccessairy
informations of the alterations and the patient‘s wishes to the patients and the
elected treatment-team, if used consequently correct.

!
• There is a high priority on the patient‘s protection and security issues. For
these reasons, all data will be deleted from the server after the download by
the affilliated team-members.

!
• All data is encoded on the server and can be opend only by the invited,
affilliated treatment-team-members.

 Sign Up:

• After purchasing the PEP, please, register
with the required information.

• The registry is nonrecurring.

!
• Your stated e-mail-address will be used for
the communnication inbetween the
treatment-team.

• Please, note the password ot a safe
location.

Now, you are enrolled and can start with

„SIGN IN“.

Patient‘s Expectations

Important:

State all esthetic wishes and expectations and personal specifications and
characteristics regarding to the patient.

Treatment Evaluation:

State all your desirable esthetic alterations.

Important:

The masticatory movements and the patient‘s specific functional patterns

can query the desired esthetic result.

Complete all findings during the diagnostic process in the patient‘s

presence.

It could be reasonable to recapitulate the notes of the precedent clinican
with the patient to clear possible misapprehensions. This should happen
with the knowledge and approval of the precedent clinican, of course.

 Findings

Overjet & Overbite:

!
• State in the „Overjet & Overbite“-box the developed alterations in + or -
mm declarations.

!
Vertical Dimension:

!
• State all corrections after the functional-, occlusal-, phonetic- & profile-
analysis into the „Vertical dimenson“-box, also in + or - mm declarations.

!
• Those values will be analysed by the clinician or by the team and will be
evaluated in the diagnostic phase in situ with the patient.

For this reason, those statements will not be captured graphically in the PEP.

!
Bleaching:

• The important issue of the tooth-color should be discussed at the

beginning of the treatment.

!
Last Bleaching:

• The last day of the bleaching is deciding for the appointment consultation
for the actual shade selection.

!
Orthodontics & Notes:

!
• Due to the diagnostic process and the earliest visualization of the desired
esthetic result, limitations because of tooth-position, tooth-arch and course
of the tissue can be evaluated.

!
• Less compromises have to be assumed and very often preparations can
be minimal invasive due to orthodontic procedures.

• The required procedures and their consequences will be discussed and

documented with the patient.

 Team

This is where you choose all involved team-members
according to the patient.

They will receive the PEP-patient-data, if they have

purchased the ccess authorizations. This data can be
extended and altered by all team-members. The PEP
recognizes each user and states the date and initials of
the according team-member on each new applied
meeting.

So, the communication with the patient remains clearly

comprehensible and recorded for all treatment-team-
members.

The PEP accesses the contacts of your address book.

When generating a PEP meeting, it is important, that we‘re able to
bring in our professional knowledge, to make realistic, functional
suggestions that are suitable for the patient. It should be clear, that
they are just suggestions, which will be adapted and adjusted
individual to the patient‘s wishes.

Only simplyfied drawings allow to illustrate an
evidence comprehensible.

Photos should be edited in a picture-editing-program to meet

your standard.

Photos that have been taken with the iPad should meet the
desired result as much as possible.

For portrait and profile pictures ensure an upright and straight

posture of the head.

Videos

The video should show as much information as possible of

the facial expression, motion and phonetics.

There are certain letters and word combinations that are

helpful, giving us the individual teeth psition and length
based on phonetic concepts.

To draw on photos before importing them to the PEP-app,

we recommend following apps form the Apple APP Store:
