PRE
REQUISITES

Students should be familiar with the basic conduction and kinetic theory.

Knowledge: -students should know:

 The structure of a solid
 Examples of good and bad conductors

Skill:- students should know how to:

 Manipulate formula to make a quantity the subject
 Work with peers

MATERIALS &
RESOURCES

For Teacher For each group/student

 White board, markers, laptop,  Lesson #42 handouts. (15 copies – 1 per pair)
multimedia projector, attendance sheet.

CONCEPT OR Heat transfer takes place from one object to another when there is a temperature
PRINCIPLE difference between them. Thermal energy can be transferred from one point to
another by either one or more of the following three methods:
 Conduction – a medium is required.
 Convection – a medium is required
 Radiation – no medium is required. Energy can be transferred in a vacuum.

OBJECTIVES At the end of the lesson, student will be able to:
Understanding
 Describe the mechanism of thermal conduction.
Applying
 Solve problems in one-dimensional heat flow.
 Use the concept of equivalent conductor to solve numerical
Applying
problems involving composite conductors.
 Outline principles involved in the experimental determination of
Evaluating
thermal conductivity of good and bad conductors.
