This article is about the message on the menu screen. For the potion, see Splash Potion.

Splash texts are the yellow lines of text on the title screen. They are randomly
chosen from the list below and often feature references to popular culture (e.g.
websites, quotes and video games). The splashes are defined in a plain-text file
within the Minecraft .jar file (versions/(Minecraft version)/(Minecraft
version).jar/assets/minecraft/texts/splashes.txt). The splash pulsates on the
title screen at a frequency of 2 Hz (120 BPM).

Splash texts are not translated and appear the same regardless of the language The main menu of Minecraft with random splash
setting chosen. text.

Splashes can be edited to the player's liking with a resource pack by editing the splashes.txt file in assets/minecraft/texts.

Splashes have been in Minecraft since Indev, with new ones regularly added, usually as part of major releases. Prior to Alpha
1.0.14, splashes were stored in an array of strings in the source code.
