ABSTRACT
This study was aimed to assess the Nursing Role in the Nutritional Education at the
Hospital Annex Buea during the period of 1st March – 30th March 2010. The study also sought to
identify the preference of food of patients, types of food several, Nutritional advice received from
The study population comprised of male and female nurses, the instrument use in collecting
data was questionnaires. The sample of 30 nurses was involved in the study and after analyzing the
data, some major findings were made. Many HIV/AIDS patients have special preference as concern
food from the table, it shows that 18 nurses (60%) at the nurses responded that they were special
preference for food, 40% responded do not have special preference as concern food. As concerning
types of food, it shows 12 (40%) of the nurses say patient prefer spicy food, as concerning the
amount of food 12 (40%) of the nurses say patients prefer bulky food. For types of food, 11 (33.3%)
The nutritional advice given to the patient was as follow 27 (90%) of the nurses always advice
the patient while 3 (10%) donot always advice the patient. In term of difficulties in ingestion,
21(70%) of the nurses say patients always have difficulties in eating some food. While 9 (30%)
donot face any difficulties. This study therefore conclude that nurses should always educate the
patient on what type of food to eat, quantity an importance of food to their health.
