Abstract
The following paper discusses the artifacts submitted for Domain E for my Professional
Developing as a Professional Educator. The first artifact that I’ve included is my 5 Year
Professional Development Plan. I plan to present this plan to my department chair and
department administrator during our final collaboration meeting this year. The meeting will
highlight my plans for the Student Senate and give me an opportunity to explain how I plan to
make student government a more democratic and engaging force on campus. Also, this will
provide an opportunity for me to present my concerns about our current textbook as well as my
desire to be a part of the textbook adoption process. My second artifact is a formal philosophy of
education that I initially wrote in my first year of student teaching and have occasionally
modified ever since. I think it is very important to revisit a statement such as this as a way to
remind one's self of what is really important and why they became a teacher to begin with.

I express my strategy and focus on professional development. I explain that I spend considerable

time researching current events and learning more about the subject matter I teach. I subscribe to
several current affairs publications and regularly collaborate with other AP government teachers
at other schools. As a result, I can provide insight for the students and give them concrete
examples and anecdotes to help illuminate the subject matter. As long as you are a teacher
professional development and growth should always be part of the process. A teacher who
abandons the quest to improve has probably reached the point at which they need to retire from
the profession.
