TECHNICAL SPECIFICATION OF FOUNDATION (BORED PILE) WORKS
SECTION 1
SCOPE OF WORKS
Work includes provision and utilization of all labors, materials and equipments for installing
bored pile foundation of 1000 mm and 800 mm in diameter with effective length of 32
meters for Tower B and 21 meters for other areas, including pile reinforcement with
reinforcement detail and pile locations as shown in the foundation design drawing,
installation of pipes for sonic logging (CSL) test and conducting vertical and lateral
kentledge and PDA loading method.
Implementation of sonic logging (CSL) test on test piles and working piles shall be carried
out by the Specialist designated or approved by the Project Owner. The Contractor shall
assist and facilitate the Specialist in the implementation of the sonic logging test.
SECTION 2
BORED PILE FOUNDATION WORKS
1. GENERAL
b. The Contractors must submit written evidence that the executive personnels on site
have approriate skill and experience.
c. The Contractor is responsible for the making the bored piles so that the size, detail,
number and location of the piles are in accordance with the design drawings.
d. Pile tip shall be placed at the bearing layer at a depth as shown in the foundation
design drawings which was determined in accordance with the results of the soil
investigation. If deemed necessary, The Contractor may perform additional soil
testing with standard penetration test at their own cost.
2. DRILLING
a. Drilling must be done with rotary drilling machine using buckets and auger. The
boring machine shall be able to penetrate the hard layer, rocks, stiff clay, gravel and
sand.
c. Other way to overcome the seepage of ground water and sludge is by using
polymer stabilizing agents such as "Super mud" or similar. Bentonite slurry / clay
mixture should not be used. Application of “Super mud” shall be done by
experienced personnels.
d. Drilling report shall be prepared for each pile which shall include dimension of pile,
drilling depth, soil classification of the soil coming out of drill hole, and all other
important data during drilling operations.
e. Drilling must be carried out until reaching the bearing layer and depth as indicated in
the foundation design drawing
f. All loose materials and sludge at the bottom of the borehole shall be cleaned.
3. REINFORCING BARS
a. Reinforcing bars shall be deformed bars with yield stress (fy) of 400 MPa (BJTD-40)
as indicated in design drawings, with diameter in metric system in accordance with
the SNI 07-2052-2014. All reinforcing bars shall be from one steel mill which has
been approved by the Project Supervisor and each shipment must be accompanied
by mill certificate (tensile test results, bending test and chemical analysis).
b. Reinforcing bar assembly shall be sturdy, centered in the borehole and shall not
move nor deform during concrete casting.
c. For each shipment or 30 tons, 3 test specimens for each size must be taken at
random; 2 specimens shall be tested for tensile and one specimen for bending in an
independent laboratory designated by the Project Supervisor. When deemed
necessary, the Project Supervisor may request to increase the number of the test
specimens and tests.
d. The minimum thickness of the concrete cover is 7.50 cm, unless specified otherwise
in the design drawings and for specific reasons.
4. CONCRETE
c. Concrete strength required for the static vertical load / kentledge test pile is fc '= 37
MPa for Ø 1000 mm and Ø 800 mm with maximum test load of 200% of allowable
bearing capacity of pile. For other piles (production piles), the required concrete
strength for the pile is fc '= 25 MPa. Water-Cementius maximum ratio shall not
exceed 0.50, fly ash content shall not exceed 15% of the total cementiuous content,
and concrete slump shall not less than 18 cm (+ 2 cm).
d. Concrete casting work shall not be carried out before the borehole is well cleaned,
inspected and approved by the Project Supervisor, and other preparation works that
are needed to ensure the smooth and good concrete casting.
e. The bottom of borehole must be cleaned thoroughly and properly prior to placement
of reinforcement cage and concrete casting. Borehole shall be casted as soon as
possible and shall not be left overnight.
g. Tremie pipe shall be placed such that its lower end shall be at least 3.00 meters
below the concrete surface at every stage of the casting.
h. The actual volume of concrete used to fill the borehole shall be recorded and
checked against the theoritical concrete volume required, in order to determine the
possibility of necking or enlargement of the pile.
i. Casting of concrete in the test pile for vertical loading test shall be up to the level of
original ground surface. The loading test will be performed at original ground level.
j. Casting of concrete in the production piles shall be higher than the design Cut Off
Level (COL), at least 1200 mm, so that solid concrete will be obtained at the pile
head. The bore hole which is not casted with concrete shall be filled by soil up to
the existing ground level.
a. If there are five (5) or more piles to be placed in a group, the middle pile shall be the
first to be installed then another pile successively more distant from the first pile
drilled.
b. The next nearest pile drilled before the concrete of the previous pile is set (less than
7 days after casting of concrete) shall be spaced no less than 3 times diameter of
the pile and must be approved by the Project Supervisor.
a. The Contractor is responsible for the procurement and installation of three (3) sonic
logging pipes per pile for thirty (30) piles, where fifteen (15) out of thirty (30)
piles shall be carried on vertical static test piles. Location of other sonic logging
pipes will be determined by the Design Consultant or Project Supervisor.
b. Sonic pipe must be made of black steel or PVC with diameter of 2 inches (± 5 cm)
and to be installed at the pile reinforcement cage on ground surface. The thickness
of the pipe shall be thick enough so that it will not break or leak during casting and
must be able to withstand concrete pressure as high as 40 m and must be approved
by the Project Supervisor.
c. Sonic pipe installation shall be straight (no bent) and not clogged. After concrete
casting, sonic pipe must be maintained properly to avoid clogging.
d. Sonic logging tests must be carried out by a competent company in the field of sonic
test appointed by The Project Owner. In the case the sonic logging test is failed and
the pile is rejected, then The Contractor will be responsible for the cost of additional
sonic logging test including the sonic logging pipes. Additional sonic logging test
shall be carried out at the location to be determined by the Design Consultant.
e. After completion of sonic logging test and approved by Supervisor, sonic logging
pile shall be fully grouted using non-shrink grout using tremie method. The
compressive strength of the grout shall not be less than 35 Mpa.
In the case concrete at the pile head is not solid and/or starter bars are too short, then
The Contractor shall repair at their own cost. The Contractor shall propose repair work
procedure (method of work) to the Design Consultant for approval before carrying out
the repair work.
9. EXCAVATED MATERIALS
Excavated material from the boreholes is to be used to fill the uncasted bore hole (blind
boring) and excess of the excavated material must be removed from the site by and at
the expense of The Contractor to a place designated by the Project Onwer/Supervisor.
Bored pile that does not comply with the requirements in the technical specification will
be rejected and must be replaced by The Contractor at his own expense, including the
additional piles which may be necessary.
11. REPORTING
a. The Contractor must prepare a full report for each pile and must submit three (3)
copies of the bored pile implementation report that have been signed by the
Supervisory every day.
b. Bored pile implementation reports shall include length and size of the pile, water
level in the borehole from ground surface, length of casing, soil layer which was
drilled and soil layer when drilling is stopped and other relevant matters. Proposed
report form must be submitted to Project Supervisor for approval before drilling
operations begin.
SECTION 3
LOADING TEST
1. GENERAL
a. Between casting and loading test, there should be a period of not less than 28 days
to restore soil condition around the pile from the effect of excavation or drilling
process. Since the loading test is conducted from the original ground surface, The
Contractor shall install double-layer geo-gundle as shown in the design drawing to
eliminate / reduce friction above the COL (COL to the ground surface). During the
execution of loading test, drilling of bored pile adjacent to the test pile (less than 50
b. The Contractor shall provide labour, materials and other tools needed for
implementation of the loading test and removed after the loading test is completed.
1. Loading tests using kentledge (static) system shall be performed are twelve
(12) vertical compression tests, one (1) vertical tension test and two (2) lateral
tests.
The details of the loading test using kentledge (static) system are as follows:
b. Vertical Tension (Pull out) Test (at the existing ground surface)
The details of the loading test using PDA (dynamic) system are as follows:
a. Test load obtained from the reaction kentledge through hydraulic jack having
capacity exceeding the test load to be applied and shall be placed on the rigid
platform. Load cell shall be used in all loading test for verification of the magnitude
of test load applied to the test pile.
c. The steel plate with a thickness sufficient to receive the load placed centered above
the pile cap to be able to distribute the load perfectly to the test pile.
d. The size of the steel plate should not be smaller than the size of the pile cap and
also shall not be smaller than the size of the jack used.
e. Hydraulic jack with sufficient capacity shall be placed centered on a pile or pile cap.
f. Jack and other tools including a hydraulic ram, hydraulic electric pump, presure
gauge and load cell must be calibrated before the loading test is performed.
b. Measurement of lateral movements shall be done using 2 (two) dial gauges placed
on two sides of the test pile.
d. Reference beam's elevation shall be monitored and recorded during the loading test.
f. Calibration report of all equipments used in the loading test that require calibration
shall be included in the loading test report.
5. LOADING PROCEDURE
a. Loading procedures for vertical loading test witn maximum test load of
250% design load
A: Load is maintained for not less than 1 hour and until settlement is less than 0.25 mm
per hour or maximum 2 hours
B: Load is maintained for 12 hours and until settlement is less than 0.25 mm per hour
or maximum 24 hours
C: 2 hour and/or until the settlement meet 0.25 mm/hour or maximum 24 hours

A: Load is maintained for not less than 1 hour and until settlement is less than 0.25 mm

6. READING PROCEDURES
The report of the load test shall include but not limited to the following :
The maximum settlement for vertical loading test at peak load of 200% or 250%
of design load shall not exceed 25 mm for 800 mm diameter bored pile and shall
not exceed 40 mm for 1000 mm diameter bored pile.
The maximum deflection at pile head for lateral loading test (free head condition)
at peak load of 200% or 250% of design load shall not exceed 25 mm and at test
load of 100% design load shall not exceed 10 mm.
Loading test shall be stopped if there is instability of kentledge, damage of
pilecap or other damage that can lead to incorrect test result
If the loading test is carried out not as specified then additional loading tests
shall be performed at the Contractor's expense. Location of loading test shall be
determined by Design Consultant.
If there is damage or/and failure on a pile loading test, then The Contractor must
replace the pile with other pile or piles according to the instructions of the Design
Consultant at the expense of The Contractor. The cost of the additional loading
test, replacement or addition of a pile or piles and preparation of design
calculations and drawings foundation by Design Consultant will be charged to
The Contractor.
