What does this

mean to me?

ICT
I believe the first session was very informative. There were policies I was unaware of,
and I look forward to the policy changes, despite the challenges that may occur. I am
excited to implement more technology in my classroom in the teaching of Spanish,
which extends beyond video. I also look forward to having assignments and homework
online, however based on my experience; I’m not sure how this will work well with my
classes. For students that claim there is no internet access available to them, or
students that “do not have access to computers” there may be a restriction with this
implementation. At my school, there isn’t a proper Wi-Fi structure throughout the
school. Currently, the internet can only be accessed in the IT Lab. Though I guess maybe
I can ask the technician and IT teachers to allow the students to complete
assignments in the lab. Something to look at... I’ve always been thinking that the
students need to be more prepared for the tech world we live in, though there’s
always the idea that I might be overstepping boundaries with the IT teachers, but now
that I know there are other teachers, like yourself Lee-Ann, I will definitely
incorporate the learning how to use technology into my classes. Thanks for a great
session. See you on Wednesday!

I believe using PowerPoint during

class can increase productivity in
my class as it would capture the
interest of students and make
learning more friendly and fun!
Using Excel will be a more effective
method of scoring student results.
I think electronic assessment would be a more effective
way to test students. Firstly, for teachers it would give
a faster result and teachers would be able to more
efficiently evaluate and analyze student responses as
well as weaker areas and topics. For the students, it
would be less pressure and stress than a paper exam in
my opinion. The students would be more inclined to do an
exam on the computer as the youth of today are more
typically raised with the influence of computers. They
may therefore feel like it is easier for them to focus and
concentrate on the questions. Also, many children are
visual learners and they would have the benefit of seeing
pictures and videos in colour to tend to the needs of their
learning. Finally, it would definitely be an
environmentally friendly option as there would be less
paper being used.
1) I believe ICT is very useful for my subject area; Spanish. As students are more inclined
to participate based on the use of tech in class, I think it is very beneficial to be able to
use these tools that we have been learning. Also, I believe Edmodo is very useful as it
keeps parents updated with assignments and work that is being done as well as it allows
the teacher to share the resources used during class and even extra resources.

2) In my opinion, the SAMR model will be beneficial as well as it guides the teacher and in
turn the students to develop ideas and to expand creativity, which will make classes
more enjoyable and easier to follow.

3) I definitely will be incorporating more ICT into my classes. I would generally use video
presentations for my classes but now I can share with my students on Edmodo and I can
provide more information for them to look over on their own time. The use of Plickers
and the games( Family Feud, Cash Cab etc) would be an asset as the students will enjoy
the game based learning since it appeals to their sensory learning. Also, I would be able
to provide my classes with more Oral Practice and I would have a better opportunity to
listen to and to correct their responses in a timely manner.

My experience at the ICT Workshop was indeed special. I
enjoyed every moment of it. I was always interested in
incorporating ICT in my classes and this workshop has
facilitated and better prepared me to do this task. The students
we are responsible for, have grown and developed on a tech-
based world and it is only fitting that they learn through
technology as well. The opportunities they have are much
greater and should be utilized.
I have already tried Edmodo, Lingt, Quizizz and Goose Chase with
my students and so far SO GOOD!!!! They LOVE it! It makes them
want to learn and want to do more work which is excellent! In
addition to the fun aspect, it also helped students to learn the
value and use of technology in a more responsible way. They now
see the education behind media and not just the social use.
I hope I will be able to continue this awesome adventure with
them and I hope this will motivate the children more, to study
languages. From the words of the children: “THIS IS SOOOO
FUN!!!!!! SO AWESOME MISS!”
Thank you, Leeann, for being a wonderful facilitator.
Hope you enjoyed my
journal entries from the ICT
course!
Thank you Leeann!
Thank you to the MOE!
Thank you TCE!
