How exciting and what wonderful ways to be the hands of Christ in our community ♥
These programs, each in their own way, bring God’s love to those around us and also is
a great way of getting our name out to our community! It is a win-win situation!
Why Go To Church?
Here are 5 quick reasons why it is beneficial

5. At church, we speak the truth about our messed-up lives (Confession) and hear the
words of forgiveness proclaimed.

One of the charges sometimes levied against Christians is that of hypocrite. Our Lutheran
church service (liturgy) addresses that charge head on. Our service begins with the words of
confession.
Confession reminds us not to think more of ourselves than we ought. Absolution reminds us not
to think less of ourselves in Christ than we ought.

4. A time to be together with our brothers and sisters in Christ. No man is an island. People
need community. As the family of God, we rejoice with others, we mourn with others. Togeth-
er, “we proclaim the excellencies of Him who called us out of darkness and into His marvelous
light.” (1 Peter 2:9) We need mutual consolation as we walk along the journey of life.

3. The 3rd Commandment – Remember the Sabbath Day by keeping it holy. What does
this mean? We should fear and love God so that we do not despise preaching and His Word, but
hold it sacred and gladly hear and learn it. As we live our busy lives, we need a day of rest. A
day to recharge and reorient ourselves.

2. Receive the Lord’s Supper – The early church called communion the ‘medicine of immor-
tality.’ It is a joy that we receive this medicine, the body and blood of Jesus for our forgiveness,
life, and salvation. In John 6:53-54, Jesus said, “I tell you the truth, unless you eat the flesh of
the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks
my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day.”

and last but not least……..

1. Jesus is here….Let me write that again: Jesus is here. It should be our desire as Christians
to be where Jesus is. In Matthew 18:16, Jesus said, “For where two or three are gathered togeth-
er in my name, there am I among them.”

From the desk of Pastor Israel:
On a recent Sunday, I spoke about the need for Christians to be actively in-
volved in combatting slavery and sexual abuse, especially the trafficking and
abuse of children. This is not an issue that I can handle with delicate language
and cautious euphemisms. This issue to was brought to my attention by local ac-
counts of rape and abuse of children; in one case an 8-year old victim and in an-
other an infant. Both cases were reported to law enforcement. It is heart-
breaking, even soul-breaking, to know that children suffer from such horrific
abuse. To know these children or to encounter these stories in our own communi-
ty demands that we act in compassionate anger and love to overcome this evil and
support children’s healing and recovery.

According to International Justice Mission, a Christian organization that

combats slavery, 1 million children worldwide are trafficked in the sex industry.
In the United States, approximately 100,000 children are trafficked in the sex in-
dustry, according to Wellspring Living resources, an organization that combats
child sex-trafficking in the U.S. and offers recovery services in the Atlanta, Geor-
gia area. In the U.S. the average age of a girl first used in the sex trade is estimat-
ed at 14 years old, but data suggests that this may be a high estimate because
younger victims are often more difficult to identify.

There are a number of organizations that combat child-trafficking and relat-

ed criminal activities that you can support. Consider International Justice Mis-
sion, Walk Free Foundation, and End Slavery Now if you wish to help fight slav-
ery and trafficking for all ages worldwide. Thorn is an international non-profit
that specifically focuses its efforts to combat child trafficking and child pornogra-
phy globally and in the United States. Kids’ HOPE Center is a local service pro-
vided through the Bay Area Hospital that serves children who have experienced
abuse. You can find out how to help Kids’ HOPE Center here: http://
www.bayareahospital.org/Services/Kids--HOPE-Center/How-To-Help.aspx

Pray for, protect, and support children. God is involved in this work and by
the grace of God we are invited to participate in it.
