What is the significance of the preface and introductory letter? Why did the publishers think that William Lloyd Garrison and Wendell
Phillips’ introductory remarks were necessary? In Williams preface he talks about who Frederick was he as person and how evil slavery was.
Describes how slavery was inhumane. Wendell was saying how eye opening this was to read and a great learning experience it was for him to
read and he encourages Douglass to tell his story and keep up the work. The Preface and Letter tell how eye opening the book is and tells the
readers what they should be expecting during the readings.
