CHAPTER 8: CONSTRUCTION ORGANIZATION

8.1 PYLON CONSTRUCTION

8.1.1 Pylon dimension

- Choose H shaped pylon, box cross section for body of pylon and peak of pylon.

- There are 2 U-shaped reinforced concrete abutment lying on cast-in-situ piles 1.5m.

- There are 3 piles rows in the longitudinal direction of bridge and 7 piles rows in the horizontal direction
of the bridge. Spacing between horizontal rows is 6 m, and longitudinal rows are 6 m. There are 16 piles
in a pylon foundation.

- H shaped pylon, its reinforced concrete footing has 5.0m in thickness standing on cast-in place piles phi
2000.

8.1.2 Pylon construction alternative

Step 1: Prepare the plan

- Level the ground by bulldozer.

- Locate the center of pylon.
- Fill up soil to assemble pile driven.
- Move boder to assembly place

Step 2: Construction piles

- Sink well casting by vicbrating hammer.

- Bore piles until designed elevation.
- Washing the bored piled.
- Pour concrete by vertical movable pipe.

Step 3: Pour concrete to cover foundation

- Sink local pile and assemble shoring system.

- Sink steel sheet pile until designed elevation.
- Remove soil in foundation pit.
- Pour concrete to cover foundation bottom until design elevation.

Steg 4: Dig the foundation pit

- Absorb water and install support bar

- Remove steel crin above the cover concrete
- Breaking up pile cap, washing the pit.
- Pour 10 cm blinding concrete.
Steg 5: Pour concrete for pile cap, leg of python

- Assemble formwork, rebar to pour for pile cap.

- Assemble YUKM system, scaffolding to concrete for leg of python.

Steg 6: Construct body of pylon

- Assemble formwork, rebar.

- Pour 2 m thickness concrete per one segment by pylon crane.
- Move formwork to next segment after completion of concrete strength.

8.2 SUPERSTRUCTURE CONSTRUCTION

8.2.1 Main span construction alternative

Steg 1: Construct pier table

- Finish construction of pylon.

- Widen pylon by steel scaffolding.
- Assemble formwork, rebar to pour concrete.
- Install cable after the strength of concrete is sufficient.
- Pull 2 first cables.

Steg 2: Construction cantilever blocks:

- Assemble form traveler at pier table.

- Pour concrete, jack tendon.
- Install cable after the strength of concrete is sufficient.
- Pull 2 next cables.

Steg 3: Close main span

- Move form traveler to outer edge of segment 13.

- Assemble formwork, rebar to pour concrete.
- Remove widening scaffolding, form traveler..

Steg 4: Finish super structure.

- Construct surface layer, utilities…

- Remove scaffolding.

8.3 CABLE CONSTRUCTION

8.3.1 Assembling cables

Cables are assembled and stretched in following order

Steg 1: Rolling prepared strands, transporting to bridge and laying each strand from anchor location at
girder to pylon leg.

Steg 2: Using specific equipment to connect bottom end of strand with guiding steel wire.

Steg 3: Passing steel wire through anchor hole and pull strand a distance. Assembling anchor pin to keep
strand, then fastening bolt to compress anchor pin.

Steg 4: Using specific clamp to fix top end of strand, then using winch to let it to protect tip.

Steg 5: Using specific equipment to connect top end of strand with guiding steel wire. After that using
winch to pull steel wire through anchor hole a distance, assembling anchor pin to fix that strand end.

Steg 6: Lossen clamp, using winch to drop clamp to wearing surface.

8.3.2 Stretching cables

- Each strand is stretched from pylon top. We should use one small jack.

- Stretching each strand, so previous strand is reduced tension force when stretching following strand.
Thus, we have to calculate tension for each strand so that we have to calculate after stretching a strand,
tension in every strain is uniform and have required as design.

- In order to check tension in strands comparing with requirement, we arrange 3 strands. In these
strands, using anchor system resting on a induction transferring tube in which, we assemble electric
resistance sheet, connecting wires to a gauge. During tension process as well as finishing cables, we
monitor tension forces of strands to compare with calculation.

- When we need adjust tension in cables, we can stretch by a great jack.

- At the end of anchor tube, we assemble a protecting tube at which there are clamps keeping strands,
damper details to increase fatigue resistance of strands,

- After closure, girder has structural deflection, we fix strands with damper to increase fatigue resistance
of strands.

Covering strands by FE plastics

- Using welder to join 2 half of PE tube to cover strands.

- Using winch to pull tube a distance, joining new tube part with above part. Joining for whole
length of cables.
- Pumping mortar to anchor end.
- After stretching and covering cables, we can pump cement glue into anchor to connect end of
cable which is removed PE and cleaned grease.
