Racism is one of the biggest problem in the world. Racism could happen to
anyone at any time, anywhere. Racism happens because one think that his race is
better than other people’s race, so, racists think that it is fine to insult other people’s
race. Many believe that racism is a never-ending issue. Racism could occur in sports,
schools, universities and workplace. However, there are many ways to overcome
racism in our daily lives.
Firstly, in “Show Racism the Red Card,” (2014), one of the ways to overcome
racism is to organise anti-racism campaign. The authorities should take proactive
steps to carry out the campaign successfully. For example, in “Show Racism the Red
Card” (2014) , the author suggests sport clubs to produce their own poster to support
anti-racism campaigns. Nowadays, sports have become a major attraction to the
community. Thus, sport clubs should manipulate this situation to change their fans’
mentality towards racism. “Show Racism the Red Card” (2014) also suggests sport
clubs to organise high profile anti-racism events to make the campaign become
successful. The sports club may utilise the social media to make the events successful.
This is like killing two birds with one stone. Moreover, a sport club could improve
their image and get more support from the community which is good for the sport
club itself. Other than that, the authorities could set up campaigns in the community.
The local council may organise a community education project to educate the people
about racism. The education project should be targeted to everyone from the
community, ranging from the elders to children. In order to make this campaign
succeed, non-governmental organisations (NGO) could play their role too. NGOs
could hold events to educate the people about racism and its consequences.
Last but not least, the next method to overcome racism is by acting
professionally towards racism. Leviticus (2014) states that people who suffer from
racism at work should talk to their superior. When they consult the superior, it will
help racism from spreading at the workplace. Horin (n.d., as cited by Korff, 2014) ,
states that the best way to deal with racists is for everyone to see them as they are.
According to Leviticus (2014) , people who suffer from racism should take suitable
actions towards the racist they encounter. As an example, Korff (2014) has suggested
to ask the racists’ use of the words or actions to gauge their intent. Korff (2014) also
indicates the people who suffers from racism to pour out their feelings so that the
racists know how their victim feel from their racist acts. This is an important act
because the racists will know what is the feeling of being abused racially.
