Razak: Assalamualaikum, Sulaini. You look a bit pale today?

Sulaini: Wualaikummusalam, Jak. Yes, I am not feeling well today.

Razak: I am sorry to hear that.

Sulaini: Well, I think I ate something not fresh during Iftar yesterday.

Razak: Hmm...it could be something that you ate or drank. What did you have for Iftar?

Sulaini: On my way home, I stopped at one Bazaar Ramadan to get myself some custard pudding. I really like custard
pudding. It did taste a bit different last night.

Razak: Oh I see. Could it be that custard pudding not fresh or a few days old? That could give you stomach upset.

Sulaini; I don't really want to accuse the seller of selling the outdated custard pudding. I may be just me. I feel so
weak today.

Razak: I think we should be more careful when we buy our food at Bazaar Ramadan. Sometimes, the way the sellers
handle their food is not hygienic and this could contaminate the food.

Sulaini, You are right, Jak. I should be more careful next time. Better be safe than sorry.

Razak: I think you better take a day off today. get some rest and you will feel better later.

Sulaini: Yes. I think that is one good idea.

Razak: All right, you take care now. Bye.

Sulaini: Thanks, Jak. Bye.

Azrul : Assalamualaikum, Mat. You look like you are in a great hurry.

Mat: Wualaikummusalam. Yes, Azrul. I was supposed to be at the market an hour ago. Got to do some
shopping for Ramadan.

Azrul: That’s right. The Holiest month of the year for Muslims, Ramadan, is here. The month starts
tomorrow, Thursday, June 18.

Mat: That’s right. It was announced on the television last night.

Azrul: I look forward to fasting in this year Ramadan. I thank Allah for His countless blessings.
Alhamdulillah.

Mat: Yes, indeed. We should use the fasting month as a time for reflection, devotion, generosity and
sacrifice.

Azrul: We must also know that it’s not only our sense of taste that is taking a break during Ramadan. It gets
slightly more demanding than that; our other senses are also put to the test!

Mat: Can you please elaborate on that.

Azrul: Certainly. Our eyes have to be committed from wandering to that which is considered to interfere with
our spiritual values, our ears from listening to idle gossip and tongue from partaking in gossip that may harm
others, as well as lying and speaking about others behind their back.

Mat: I couldn’t agree more. Furthermore it’s a pretty amazing feeling to think that we are among the 2 billion
Muslims worldwide who are fasting and experiencing exactly the same feelings as we are, it’s the ultimate
sense of community.
Azrul : Fasting is very beneficial to our health too. With the change of routine in Ramadan, we have a chance
to establish healthier lifestyle habits – particularly with regards to diet and smoking. It allows our digestive
system to rest from the normal demands of processing and breaking down food, freeing up system resources
to cleanse and purify the body of accumulated toxins, allowing for more effective healing and tissue repair.
Mat: Subhanallah! It goes without saying that fasting in Ramadan purifies the mind, body and spirit, leading
to greater clarity, sensitivity and health.
Azrul: Let me give you and myself a gentle reminder. Since we have been refraining ourselves from food
since early morning, it is so tempting to stuff our stomach with the delicious rice and meat dishes, as well as
all other kinds of delicacies placed in front of us. But as Muslims, we are encouraged to always remember to
keep one third of our stomachs for food, one third for liquid and one third for air. This was the habit of our
prophet Mohammed (peace and blessings upon him).
Mat: Another thing that we should do during Ramadan is to spent the evenings by offering extra optional
prayers, tarawih and witir, which are normally performed in the mosque.
Azrul: Allah is Great! I believe it’s time for you to make your run to the market. Really nice talking to you,
Mat.
Mat: Likewise. You have a great day.
Azrul: May you have a blessed Ramadan.
Mat: Bye.
