Sec. Depth[d] = Section Thickness - RFT Cover = 67.5 cm
Section Straining Actions
Reaction at support = 8.46ton
Design for shear
Step 1 : Determine the design shear force
The critical section for shear is located at [d/2] from the face of the support.
So, the critical section is located at a distance that is equal to 33.75cm from the face of the support
Qu = Reaction - Ws * (Column Width/2 + d/2) = 8.46 - 4.51 * ( 0.4/2 + 0.675/2) = 6.04 ton

Step 2 : Check the adequacy of the concrete dimensions of the section

The concrete dimensions of the section are considered adequate if the stress due to the design shear
force is less than the ultimate shear strength.
q u = Qu / b * d (eq 4-13) = 6.035875 * 10^3 / 25 * 67.5 = 3.576815 kg/cm 2

Design for shear
Step 1 : Determine the design shear force
The critical section for shear is located at [d/2] from the face of the support.
So, the critical section is located at a distance that is equal to 33.75cm from the face of the support
Qu = Reaction - Ws * (Column Width/2 + d/2) = 8.46 - 4.51 * ( 0.5/2 + 0.675/2) = 5.81 ton

Step 2 : Check the adequacy of the concrete dimensions of the section

The concrete dimensions of the section are considered adequate if the stress due to the design shear
force is less than the ultimate shear strength.
q u = Qu / b * d (eq 4-13) = 5.810375 * 10^3 / 25 * 67.5 = 3.443185 kg/cm 2
q u max =2.2 * √ Fcu/γc (eq 4-16) =2.2 * √ 250/1.5 = 28.40188 kg/cm 2
Since q u < q u max , The concrete dimensions of the section are adequate, The section is SAFE.

Step 3 : Determine the shear stress carried by concrete

q cu =0.75 * √ Fcu/γc (eq 4-18) =0.75 * √ 250/1.5 = 9.682458 kg/cm 2
Since the shear stress Is lower than the shear stress carried by concrete , No web reinforcement Is
needed [Use minimum shear reinforcement : 5Φ8/m ,2 Branches]

Check deflection at critical section

Section Dimensions
Sec. Width[b] = 25 cm
Sec. Thickness[t] = 70 cm
Sec. Slab Thickness[ts] = 15 cm

Step 1 : Calculate the un-cracked section properties

Neglect the reinforcement steel in calculating the gross moment of inertia (Ig).
Effective compression flange width [Beff] = 16 * Slab ts + Section Width 265
Neutral Axis Location from compression side ( Y ) =(((b * ts* ts/ 2) + b * (t - ts) * ((t - ts) / 2 + ts)) / (b * ts+ b * (t
- ts))) = 16.5cm
Ig = (b * (t - ts) 3 ) / 12 + b * (t - ts) * ((t - ts) / 2 + ts- Ytop) 2 + (b * ts 3 / 12) + b * ts* ( Ytop - ts/ 2) 2 )=
1672620.7165109 cm 4

Step 2 : Calculate the cracking moment and the applied moment

f ctr = 1.9 * √ Fcu (eq 4-61-b) = 1.9 * √ 250 = 30.042 kg/cm 2
M ctr = f ctr * I g / Y = 30.0416377715996 * 1672620.7165109 / 16.4953271028037 = 9.39 t.m
M act (From Moment Analysis) = 9.41 t.m
Since M act > M ctr ,then calculate Ie

Step 3 : Calculate the cracked section properties

As = 5T12 = 5.655 cm 2
Assume the neutral axis is located at a distance z from the compression force,Transform the area of steel
reinforcement into an equivalent area of concrete. (n As).
n * As = 10 * 5.65486677646163 = 56.55 cm 2
Taking the first moment of area for the transformed section about the N.A., gives:
Z = Beff * Z^2 + (2 * n * Asm) * Z - 2 * n * Asm * d =5.158 cm
I ctr =((b * Z^3) / 3) + (n * Asm * (d - Z)^2) = 220920.485 cm 4

Step 4 : Calculate the effective moment of inertia

E c = 14000 *√ Fcu (eq 2.1) = 14000 * √ 250 = 2213594.36211787 kg/cm 2
Ie =Ictr + (Ig - Ictr) * ((Mctr / Mact) ^ 3) = 1663409.607 cm 4

Step 5 : Calculate deflection

Step 5.1 : Calculate of correction factor
due to simiplicty ,deflection values calculated previously neglected the cracking stat of the concrete section
so ,In order to calculate the actual values of deflection we need to calculate the correction factor
Correction Factor = Ig/Ie = 1.01

Step 5.2 : Calculate immediate deflection

From the double integeration elastic deflection method ,values of deflection at critical point are
∆ D.L = ∆ D.L Calculated * Correction Factor = 0.0276 * 1.01 = 0.028 cm
∆ L.L = ∆ L.L Calculated * Correction Factor = 0.0059 * 1.01 = 0.006 cm

Page 12 of 14

Project : New Project ! - Beam : Beam 2

Thus the immediate deflection equals :

∆ i =∆ D.L + ∆ L.L = 0.034 cm

Step 5.3 : Calculate the long-term deflection

the total deflection due to all loads including the effect of creep equals:
∆ total = (1 + α) * ∆ D.L + ∆ L.L
α = 2 - 1.2 (As \ /As) = 2 - 1.2 *(2.26/5.65) = 1.52
∆ total = (1 + α) * ∆ D.L + ∆ L.L = (1+1.52) *0.0278 + 0.0059 = 0.0759 cm

Step 6: Check code requirements

Effective Span Length for the span (Leff) = 0.87 * L ((Continous one End)) = 0.87 * 5 = 4.35m
The code maximum limit for the span that contain the max deflection can be calculated as following
∆ Allowable = Leff/250 = (4.35 * 100)/250 = 1.74 cm
Since ∆ total (0.0759 cm) < ∆ Allowable (1.74 cm), the code limit is satisfied.
