Schroeder examines the current scientific model of cosmic origins (in simplified
fashion), agreeing with the widely-known conclusions that:

I- The cosmos could have developed (and presumably did develop) out of a quantum
fluctuation from nothing. Schroeder mentions Edward Tryon of Hunter College who was
the first cosmogonist/physicist to postulate this concept. The quantum fluctuation
resulted in a cosmos where negative and positive energy are balanced (hence there is
no need for a priori existence of energy to initiate the cosmos).

II- Prior to this event, the only existent items were a Set of Forces called the Laws of
Nature. They are not physical; instead they act on matter and energy.

Schroeder then characterizes the situation in the following 4 postulates concerning the
Set of Forces:

1) Not physical
2) Acts on the physical
3) Created the physical from nothing
4) Predates the universe

Lastly, Schroeder identifies the Set of Forces as the God of Scripture working in
Genesis 1:1.
