Caring for an oiled animal goes far beyond the wash. Great strides
have been made throughout the years for both human and animal
safety.
"For my first oil spill, I got a call early one hot July afternoon.
There were incoming, oiled birds—Canada Geese—and lots of
them. My son had answered the phone and tracked me down at
a friend's house. I dropped what I was doing and went directly to
Tri-State to suit up. Team members were already on site so I was
able to relieve someone there. It was 104 degrees that day and we

outreach programs
Education has been a cornerstone of Tri-State’s mission for decades. We taught our first
contaminated wildlife workshop in 1977 and our first Introduction to Wildlife Medicine course
to first-year veterinary students at the University of Pennsylvania in 1996. Tri-State’s summer
internship program has been shaping future veterinarians, rehabilitators, and conservationists
for 33 years.
The 2016 Summer Intern Program was funded by generous gifts from:
The Dansko Foundation LabWare, Inc. June Robbins
Deupree Family Foundation Gregg and M.C. Landis John & Robin Spurlino

2016 marks Tri-State’s 40th Anniversary, and our “ruby”
anniversary has its own logo, featuring the Ruby-throated
Hummingbird as our mascot for this milestone year
in Tri-State’s history. These birds are tiny but mighty and
accomplish much with little resources, just as Tri-State has
since 1976. We’ve come a long way in 40 years, and together
we can soar to new heights over the next 40 years.
