Science and Space Society

If you are new to space science, sorting out the details can seem a little overwhelming.
There are mountains of information to sift through and no telling what is fact or
folklore. But never fear, our out-of-this-world society is here to get you started! Or if
you've got the fundamentals down and you're looking to develop a closer relationship
with science and space you've come to the right club.

October ‘17

The month of October quickly went by while encouraging and preparing

students for various International & National Science contests. By holding
various orientations and going to the classes one by one, we successfully
registered 60+ students for the competitions, listed below, and more
registrations are on the way.

Buraq Space Camp

It is a ten day camp in Islamabad, 22nd-31st December 2017, where the best of the
brightest students from all over the country get to interact with leaders in Academia,
sciences, technology, business and other significant professions. The camp
includes lectures by people from various fields ranging from physics to
entrepreneurs to public health. Moreover, it also includes a field trip to Pakistan
Aeronautical Complex, Kamra. You might be thinking such an amazing event,
right?
But the catch is that only 40 students from all over Pakistan are selected. There is
a written test which is held in 5 major cities. After which only 40 people are selected amongst thousands! This
year our society held up to its reputation by not only making students participate but also teaching them how to
conquer. The result being that 4 students from Roots Millennium Campus Islamabad got selected in this 10
days residential event, which is the highest one from one school this year! This camp surely changes lives.
Hope they win the grand prize of Rs/-200000 for the winning squad.
LUMS National STEM School

The National STEM School is a 10-day residential programme for 14-17 year olds to come and experience the
excitement of learning science by doing science and building things! The National
STEM School is an annual programme designed to bring the best and brightest
students from across the country and give them ‘wings’ to realise their dreams! The
online application had to be submitted by 31st Oct but due to the immense number
of applications the deadline has been extended to 7th November 2017. Educating
the students about this life changing experience was our goal which we successfully
achieved. More than 10 students registered and more registrations are being
followed.

HRCA English and science quiz 2017-2018

HRCA stands for House of Representatives of Culture and Arts. The HR Consultant
Association focuses on the future of the Pakistan by Student’s extracurricular activities and
Competitions that will attract and equip students for a career in the rapidly growing field of
science. The responsibility of registrations for the 2017 HRCA Science and English quiz as
well as its publicity within the campus was carried out by Roots Millennium Science and Space
Society. The participating classes consist of O levels and A levels. Due to successful
orientations and publicity a total of 36 students were registered. The syllabus for the quiz was
also distributed among the contestants by Roots Millennium Science and Space Society. This
contest is to be held in the school campus on 17th November 2017. The competition will play
an important role in ensuring that youth of Pakistan is empowered with modern scientific
knowledge and will create stronger, more human, creative and sustainable communities. The quiz also gives
the students the opportunity to be challenged to excel and achieve in their fields.
