Dear Parent/Carer,

Wider Learning Week 2018: SIXTH FORM

I am writing to inform you about our plans for Year 12 students during Wider Learning Week,
which takes place from Monday 9 - Friday 13 July 2018. A full timetable is attached to this letter.
It is compulsory for all Year 12 students to attend sessions, even if presently they do not think
they wish to apply to university. Please note that students retaking Year 12 are only required to
attend the sessions on Wednesday and Friday. The aims of the sessions are:

 To introduce students to the process of applying to university

 To register students on the UCAS website and support them in completing the personal
details section
 To enhance their understanding of how to write good quality CVs and ensure good
interview techniques.
 To support students in completing a first draft of their personal statements, ensuring it is
uploaded to the UCAS website
 To make students aware of apprenticeship and degree apprenticeship opportunities

Students are expected to arrive at school for 8.45am on Monday 9 July, with activities
commencing in the Sixth Form Study Room. Students will then follow the attached timetable, with
their activities determined by their allocated group (also attached). Students will need to bring a
written copy of their CV on Monday 9 July, details of their GCSE examination results to the
sessions in the Library on Wednesday 11 July, and a USB memory stick throughout the week.
Please be aware that students will be allocated time to complete a draft of their personal
statement. Students who do not use this time for the intended purpose will not be able to enrol
for Year 13.

I would also like to take this opportunity to write to you regarding some important dates for August
and September:

SUMMER EXAMINATION RESULTS

These will be issued to students on Thursday 16 August 2018 from 9.00 – 11.00am for external,
public examinations only. Year 12 internal results will be published during the Summer Term.
GCSE retake results for English and mathematics will be issued on Thursday 23 August at
9.00am.

AUTUMN TERM STARTS

Autumn Term starts for Year 13 on Thursday 6 September 2018. Students are expected in school
at 1.45pm to attend an assembly and an induction period with form tutors. Failure to attend,
without good reason, will be an indication to the school that students will not be resuming their
studies at Isleworth & Syon. Year 13 lessons will resume on Friday 7 September 2018.

Yours faithfully,

Mr J Doyle
Assistant Headteacher - Sixth Form Leader
