A Celebration of Black Culture in Albany, GA

ALBANY, GA- As the nation takes notice of Black History during the month of February, the Albany Business
League celebrates Black culture with a two-week long celebration. Most events are free, and all are open to
the public, no matter your race or ethnicity. This is also a unique opportunity for Albanians to support local
Black owned businesses.
“Black History Month raises the collective conscience of all people in America to take a moment to reflect on
African American people whose contributions are interwoven into the fabric of American history. During this
month, we encourage everyone to participate in these events and to get to know someone who is of another
color. This way, you can do your part to encourage inclusiveness in our community, “says Sherrell Byrd,
founder and chair of the Albany Business League. “I also encourage all citizens to shop at locally Black owned
businesses, visit the Albany Civil Rights Institute and even visit a predominately Black faith based institution
with your family, this month and every month.”
