Albany Committee for Arts and Cultural Affairs (ACACA) will have its first Pop Up Art Walk 2017: Just
Do Art! event on the eastbound side of W. Broad Ave. across from the parking deck, on Saturday,
September 2nd beginning at 10 a.m.
This family-friendly, mini art festival will feature a youth sidewalk chalk-art contest, vendors, live music
and dance performances, fashion shows, on-site painting demonstrations, and an interactive visual
art space. Budding authors and lovers of literature will be able to meet local writers during the
Authors’ Showcase. A late afternoon African drumming circle, at the corner of S. Jackson and W.
Broad, will transition the day into an evening of adults-only poetry at the Downtown Southern Kitchen
at 230 W. Broad Ave.
ACACA organizer Sherrell Byrd stated, "This event will allow us to showcase the rich arts culture in
our community. We have so many talented artists in Albany, but they are largely unknown. We hope
that this, and future Pop Up Art Walk events, will not only give these visual, performing and literary
artists a platform, but also enhance the quality of life for the citizens of the "Good Life City."
Young visual artists who are interested in competing in the sidewalk art contest will receive
information via their Dougherty County Schools art classes. Vendors and visual and performing
artists interested in displaying their wares, or performing on the mainstage are encouraged to contact
Sherrell Byrd at (229) 669-6506 or info.albanybusinessleague@gmail.com for registration forms.
