EPOFINE® - 404 / FINEHARD – 2404

(EPOXY GELCOAT FOR TOOLING)

PRODUCT

EPOFINE®–404 is a formulated epoxy resin with high grade speciality fillers and Finehard-
2404 is a formulated amine hardener.

APPLICATION

EPOFINE®–404 / FINEHARD–2404 is suitable for manufacture of foundry patterns, copy

milling models, concrete casting moulds, tools, tooling aids, leading edges of cooling fans,
windmill blades etc.

SPECIAL FEATURES

The following advantages make it ideal for industrial use.

• Simple mixing ratio (Resin : Hardener = 100 : 10 by weight)

• Tolerant mixing ratio (± 2 %).
• Thixotropic consistency to facilitate thicker coating.

Properties

Mix Ratio, Epofine® –404 : Finehard – 2404 = 100 : 10 (w/w)

Processing Guidelines

Pot life : 25 – 30 minutes

Demoulding time : > 18 hours

Weigh accurately the resin and hardener in required quantities in a metallic container and mix
well. Ensure that the hardener is well mixed in to the resin. Apply to the mould having a release
coating (Finerelease-QZ-13). After the coating becomes slightly tacky, in about 45 minutes.
Over this gel-coat, build the laminates by normal laminating method and close the mould and
allow it to cure. After demoulding the outside surface will be a blue hard, abrasion resistant
coating.

If the gel coat has to bea applied over a already casted component or a laminate, clean the
surface free of release agent, oil and grease and slightly roughen it with an emery cloth.
Remove the dust using white spirit. Apply the mix of Epofine-404 and Finehard-2404.
Handling time is 3 – 4 hours.

STORAGE , HANDLING AND DISPOSAL

Storage : Store in a cool, dry place.

Shelf life : As given above, when stored in original sealed
containers at 2 – 40oC.
Handling : Use hand gloves and protective glasses.
Disposal : Dispose by incineration or as per local regulations.

SAFETY INFORMATION

Flash point : Look for the individual values as above

Precautions : In case of skin contact, wash with soap and water.
In case of eye irritation, bathe the affected eye with
running water for at least 15 minutes, and get
medical attention.
