6.2 Title Page Format
1. Objectives
The Computer Engineering OJT program of the Mapua Institute of Technology is a non-
classroom learning program where in students are required to be immersed with industries
to apply skills, methods, concepts, and theories learned in the classroom during their
matriculation in their program of study.

This OJT program is expected to equip students with the necessary knowledge and to
develop their computer engineering skills when they get involve in actual industry project
providing gainful insights on corporate working environments. The OJT companies are
afforded with opportunity to have a first-hand pick on potential students being trained at
minimal cost.

The trainee, through this OJT program, shall also focus on the corporate use of technology,
management strategies, and organizational behaviours. An in-depth discussion on learning
on these topics shall be compiled and to be reported by the trainee at the end of the
program.

Finally, this OJT program is designed for inexperienced students to be trained by


experienced personnel from the industry on specific tasks. With the application of the
students’ skills and theoretical knowledge, the technical expertise and seasoning of
experienced industry staff actually performing the task is captured, documented, and
organized.

2. Minimum Required OJT Hours


Students who will undergo the OJT program are required to render a minimum of 240 hours
of company work

IMPORTANT: Students are not allowed to request for over-time work or early release of
Certificate of Completion of the training program. A violation of any of these will mean no
credit for the rendered time by the students in the company.

3. Student Qualifications
Students who wish to undergo the OJT program should be in their last term prior to the
completion of their program of study as prescribed in the catalogue of information and
should be officially enrolled in the course required for OJT.

4. Procedures
a. Request for Letter of Recommendation - Students who will enrol the OJT course
and who will request for Letter of Recommendation are required to submit to
the Dean’s Office his/her resume in a long brown manila envelope. Include in
the envelop a 3x5 index card with the following information:

Program of Study/Student Number
Name of Company where the OJT will be conducted
Name of Contact Person in the Company
Position of the Contact Person
Address of the Company

b. Initial Screening - The office will provide the student with a letter of
recommendation after having been interviewed by the Dean or his/her
representative.

c. Company Screening - As may be desired, companies may do their own screening


of OJT applicants upon receipt of the letter of recommendation of the school
with accompanying documents (resume of student, summary of skills, etc.).

d. Submission of Letter of Acceptance - The student, after having been accepted


by the company for the training should IMMEDIATELY submit to the Dean’s
Office and to the concerned OJT course adviser a copy of Letter of Acceptance
from the company duly signed by the HR Manager/Supervisor of the company.

e. Submission of Waiver - The trainee after being accepted by the company for
the training and upon submission of Letter of Acceptance by the company to
the Dean’s office shall immediately secure a waiver for OJT from the Dean’s
Office. The form must be accomplished by the trainee to formalize the training.
A copy of which must be submitted to the Dean’s Office and to the course
adviser for record purposes. Failure to submit this form means forfeiture of
rendered company hours.

f. OJT Project Approval - The trainee must be involved in a project, research or


other Computer Engineering related activities based on the company’s
requirement which must be approved by the OJT course adviser. In cases
when the company does not assign a project, the trainee must prepare a
project proposal with solution based on problems / opportunities observed by
the trainee in the company for acceptance of the company. To formalize the
approval of the project assigned by the company to the trainee or the project
proposal of the trainee to the company, the trainee must accomplish the OJT
Project Approval Form and submit it to his/her OJT course adviser. Students
without an approved project at the end of the term will have to re-enrol the
OJT course the following term.

g. Submission of Company Rating Form - After completing the training program,


the trainee shall secure from the Dean’s Office and submit to the company the
Company Rating Form for evaluation and assessment of the performance of the
trainee while rendering OJT hours in the company. The company HR Head or its
equivalent should sign the company rating form. The company in return shall
send to the Office of the Dean or to the OJT course adviser the duly
accomplished Company Rating Form enclosed in a sealed and signed envelope.

h. Oral Presentation - The trainee should present his/her activities in the company
to a panel of critics. The trainee is considered passed if the members of the
panel concur to the trainee’s accomplishments. The trainee will be graded by
the panel of critics using the criteria given at the OJT Oral Presentation Rating
Form. The date and time of the oral presentation should be agreed by the OJT
course adviser, the panel members, and the student. The student is given the
freedom to choose his/her panel members. In case the student has no available
panel members, the OJT course adviser may provide the required panel
members. OJT report must be given to the panel members at least 3 days prior
to the agreed date of Oral Presentation.

i. Submission of Final Document - As a major requirement for the course, a final


documentation of the OJT conducted must be submitted by the trainee. This
document must contain details of the activities done by the trainee in the
company. The format and contents of the final document is given in item 6. The
final grade of the trainee will be given only upon submission of the OJT Final
Document. No final document, no final grade.

5. Grading System
The basis of computation of Final Grade for the course will be based on the following:

 Oral Defense is 30% of the final average


 Final Document is 10% of the final average
 Company Rating is 60% of the final average

Final Average = Oral Defense * 0.3 + Final Document * 0.1 + Company Rating * 0.6

The Table below shows the Final Grade equivalent of the computed Final Average of the student.

6. Document Format
The document to be prepared by the trainee must comply with the following
requirements/format:

a. Should be written using MS Office


b. Font
Type : Tahoma
Size : 12
Color : Black only (title and header can be bold and bigger font)
c. Margins
Left : 11/2"
Right, Top, Bottom : 1”
d. Make - Spiral bound, color blue, short bond paper (8 ½“x 11”)
e. Line spacing - Double except for Abstract which requires single space
f. Number of copies for Submission:
 1 Ring bind
 1 electronic copy in CD with proper label

b. Technical Learning – discuss the use of technology in the company and all technical
learning.
c. Organizational Behaviour – Discuss the human behaviour in the organization as follows:
(1) Leadership – discuss the Leadership styles in terms of Vision, Commitment, and
Management Model.
(2) Motivation – Discuss the actions being taken to motivate the people.

PART 3: Discussion of Assigned Project or Proposal


a. Identify and Assess Opportunities
1. Introduction
 Background of the opportunity
 History – discuss the history and details of the problem, its impact to the
organization, business and competition
 Present Situation – discuss in details of the present situation, include the
what, who, where, and when.
 Opportunity Statement – in less than 50 words describes the opportunities
from the project. This should not be too broad or too specific.
 Stakeholders – identify anyone who is impacted by or has influence on the
opportunity Ex: System administrator, users, etc. Influence on the project
2. System Requirements – gathering of requirement to meet the stakeholders
needs
3. Boundary Conditions – The boundary condition should include the givens,
decision already made, assumption made, activities or scopes not included in
the project.

b. Generate and Select Alternatives


1. Generate Alternatives- define the scope of each alternatives
2. Select the Preferred Alternative
(i) Value assessment, Risk and Trade-offs
(ii) Insights from the analysis, including key stakeholders issues

c. Develop the Project Proposal or Preferred Alternatives


1. Define the final Scope of the project
(i) Detailed Functional Design Specification when applicable
(ii) System Context Diagram, Data flow Diagrams, ERD, Data Dictionary, etc.
