Proficiencies:(Mathematics only)
Lesson Objectives (i.e. anticipated outcomes of this lesson, in point form beginning with an action verb)

As a result of this lesson, students will be able to:

 Identify what the world would be like if everyone prayed
 Discuss what there would be less of in the world if everyone prayed
 Recognize why people pray

Teacher’s Prior Preparation/Organisation: Provision for students at educational risk:

 Pre-planned ideas for T-Chart if students need  Assist Ellie during individual working time
prompting
 A4 paper for T-Chart on board
LESSON EVALUATION (to be completed AFTER the lesson)
Assessment of Lesson Objective and Suggestions for Improvement:
 Lesson objectives were achievable, and students were engaged with each objective.
 My lesson objectives could be improved by rewording them to create a single WALT.
 Next time I will also write the WALT clearly for the students to copy down onto their work.

Teacher self-reflection and self-evaluation:

I believe that my lesson plan was effective and able to be implemented into a successful, short Religion lesson. The
kids were engaged, and I was able to keep the behaviour/noise level under control throughout. Due to nerves, I think
that I skimmed through some important information that could have helped the lesson run more smoothly such as:
giving suggestions for key words to use in their google search, use a more effective “attention grabbing” prompt (the
clapping was not as effective as I would have hoped) and making my PowerPoint more detailed for the class and
myself to follow.
[OFFICIAL USE ONLY] Comments by classroom teacher, HOPP, supervisor:
 Classroom teacher notes are on a second document in resource file.

Resources/References
Time Motivation and Introduction:
1:50pm PowerPoint
1. Begin by explaining the WALT for the lesson: Identify what there would be presentation
more of AND less of in the world if everyone prayed like Jesus.

2. Introduce the topic by telling students that while there are many ways to
communicate with each other, a form of communication that is not often
recognized is prayer.

3. Some people might think that the only way to communicate is by calling
someone on the phone, writing a letter or sending a message. However,
when we communicate with God, we do not need to call him or write to
him but instead pray in our hearts.

4. Explain that Jesus taught that everyone should pray in order to make the
world a peaceful, harmonious place to live and to strengthen each one of
our relationships with God. When we become closer to God through
prayer, we can be more like Jesus on a daily basis by being more
courageous and able to deal with any hardships we might face.

5. Continue to tell students that Jesus taught that everyone should pray
because without prayer there would be a lot more chaos taking place and
less peace.

Lesson Steps (Lesson content, structure, strategies & Key Questions):

1:55pm 6. Place a magnet over an A3 sheet of paper ready to create a class T A3 paper for T Chart
Chart. Explain that together we will discuss our own ideas for, on the left Whiteboard marker
side, what there would be more of if everyone prayed as Jesus taught and
on the right side, what there would be less of if everyone prayed as Jesus
taught.

7. Give an idea for each section to prompt the students thinking

- More of: People being kind to each other
- Less of: People fighting with each other

8. When people pray, it is just like having a private conversation between

you and God. It helps us to be more kind to others, more thoughtful about
our actions and act the way Jesus did in his life.
Praying also helps to prevent bad things such as fighting, unkindness,
worry and sadness. If everyone prayed, there would be less of these
things in the world.

9. If they do not have many ideas when asked, have them do a “Think-Pair-
Share” with the person sitting next to them so they can discuss their
answers before

10. Other ideas they might come up with include

More:
- Happiness
2pm - Thoughtfulness
- Mindfulness
- Courage

2

- Focus on what is important in life

- Helping other people
- Forgiving people who have not been nice

Less:
- Fear
- Loneliness
- Judgement of others
- Anger
- Taking out your anger on your loved ones

11. Explain today’s activity: We will be using our IPads to create individual Pic Individual IPads
Collages based on what the world would have more of and less of if we
prayed. Show the students the example you created with the left side Pre-made Pic Collage
being dedicated to the ‘more of’ and the right side for ‘less of’.

12. Walk around and keep students on task while they create their Pic
Collage. Tell them to use images from online, words, and drawings to
convey what they think about the topic.

13. Return to the front mat and choose one or two (depending on time)
students to explain their collage to the class.

Lesson Closure:(Review lesson objectives with students)

14. Remind students that many people pray when they are in trouble, sad,
sick or worried but we can also make praying a daily part of our lives,
2:20pm even when nothing is wrong! When we get used to praying to God as
Jesus did, we can thank Him for all that we have in our lives – the way we
do in our class prayer before lunch and afterschool!

If there is any time left have the students close their eyes and read the prayer:
“I won't fret and I won't worry
Instead I'll hurry to pray.
I'll turn my problems into petitions
And lift my hands in praise.
I'll say goodbye to all my fears,
His presence sets me free
Although I may not understand
I feel God's peace in me.”

Transition: (What needs to happen prior to the next lesson?)

- Put iPads away ready for Mrs C’s instruction for the next lesson.

Assessment: (Were the lesson objectives met? How will these be judged?)
Students will be assessed through observation and questioning. Teacher will
ensure that students are on task and contributing to group discussion and the
activity. Anecdotal notes will also be recorded.
