Monolingual class. 40 students (25 women – 15 men). Age range: 15-18. Ls’ level is A2. They
have four one-hour lessons a week. They manage basic grammar and lexical items (e.g.
present simple and continuous and past simple, vocabulary about things at home, at school,
holidays, etc.) so that they can understand simple written texts about familiar topics. However,
they need to improve their listening skills so that they can better understand simple oral texts
about familiar topics.
Main aim:
By the end of the lesson, students will have practised listening for gist, details and attitude in
informal transactional exchanges in the context of vacations.

Timetable fit:
This lesson is connected (in content) to previous lessons about vacations and a following lesson
about trip arrangements. As for listening skills, it is linked to previous practice in listening for gist
to get the main idea (context, place, speakers, and situation) and listening for attitude to aid
comprehension by making intelligent guesses of what they are saying according to how they feel
about what is being said. Also, there will be subsequent practice in listening for details to help
them understand specific information.
