10th Singapore Junior

Physics Olympiad

The 10th Singapore Junior Physics Olympiad (SJPO) 2017 is a Physics competition organized by the Institute
of Physics, Singapore (IPS) for secondary school students. This annual competition aims to encourage the
study and appreciation of Physics beyond the school curriculum, by providing an opportunity for students
to solve novel questions that require critical and inventive thinking.

Competition Details

 General Round :
Date : 19 May 2017, Friday
Time : 14:30 to 16:30
Venue : Respective schools
Format : Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs)

The results of General Round as well as the students selected for the Special Round will be emailed to
teachers-in-charge by 2 June 2017, Friday.

 Special Round :
Date : 1 July 2017, Saturday
Time : 09:00 to 12:00
Venue : National Institute of Education (exact venue TBC)
Format : MCQs and Structured Questions

The results and certificates will reach the teachers-in-charge by 31 August 2017, Thursday.

Rules and Regulations

1. Eligibility
a) Registration is through schools only. Approval by the Principal of the respective school is necessary
for participation.
b) Participating schools are responsible for ensuring that participants are within the age limits of the
respective categories (participants can only take part in one category each year). Schools will be
disqualified if any of its participants are found to have breached the age limits, intentionally or
otherwise.

Main Category : Only Secondary 1-4 (IP Year 1-4) (Grade 7-10) students are eligible to
participate. Students should be 16 years or younger as of 1 January 2018.
Open Category : Only Secondary 1-4 (IP Year 1-4) (Grade 7-10) students are eligible to
participate. There is no age limit for this category.

2. Conditions
a) The Organising Committee will not accept any liability for scripts lost in transit.
b) The use of all electronic devices during the test such as mobile phones, pagers, PDAs, smart
watches, etc. is strictly prohibited. Only non-programmable scientific calculators are allowed (i.e.
graphing calculators cannot be used).
