This lesson can be a great help for my ESOL students as they learn English. The timeline can provide them
with the content of the lesson but in a fun, linear way. They can also utilize this content at home with the help
of their caretakers if I share it using BBPTs. By providing a timeline before the lesson, students who might
have a learning disability can look at it before coming to class or even before I start the lesson to get them a
step ahead. It is also a great resource for students with visual disability as they can read or use headphones to
get the same information that their peers are getting.
I will start by showing my students the timeline I have created. By doing so my students can get some
background on the topic as well as see it first-hand what they will be learning about that day. I will have some
guided questions to ask my students before, during and after the timeline presentation. The students will be
able to discuss what they knew before they saw the timeline and what they learned about the phases after
viewing and discussing the timeline.
Students will then get a choice of choosing a partner and choose a different phase of the moon to do a
presentation on. Students will be asked to research on their specific phase of the moon using technology and
then present it using the medium of their choice. Once the students are ready to present, first they will
present for their class and then they will come together with all the fifth graders and present it again.

Reflective Practice:
The activities that I created with this lesson can help students take roles of adults and be responsible for
their own presentation. A further extension of this unit would be to consider more aspects of the solar system
and research more in depth. Students can share their work with the whole school during a school fair or an
annual PTA meeting. They can also take this further, combine all the historical figures and create a movie as a
class project.
