Universal Design for Learning (UDL):

For students PowerPoint is a Basic Productivity Tool that addresses UDL Principles by being accessible to all
students from home or school. PowerPoint provides students with an equal learning opportunity.
PowerPoint provides students with the availability to add video and audio to a presentation which would
be helpful to ELL Students who are reading presentations but can follow along by the pictures attached.

Lesson idea implementation:

As the teacher I would introduce the topic being covered by asking the students “What Planet are we on?” This
will allow for discussion of Earth as the planet and begin the discussion of our Solar System. This will allow
students to revisit the content of what they have learned about our Solar System already.

After our discussion I will then proceed to have the students create an e-book where they will be in small
groups and that group will pick between the eight planets and the sun (Each planet will only be used, sun will
only be used once). In the students books they must include the size of the planet, where the planet stands in
order from the sun, appearance of the planet, and any interesting facts on their planet.

Extension: Now that the students have finished their e-book they will create a movie from their PowerPoint.
Then once the students have finished their PowerPoint and movie I will have the students send me both
projects. I will then post each groups presentations onto the classroom blog. This will allow students to be able
to view and review from both home and school.

Reflective Practice:
I think the lesson I created would have a strong impact on the students and their learning. I believe that
allowing them to choose their planet allows them to take control of their own learning, but will also allow

them to view their peers work and review the content. To further extend this lesson I would upload the
student’s work onto the class blog where it will be accessible for students to review and show to their family
members.
